New Manager
Re: New Manager
Gary Lowe and his side kick must be aware of the club's financial situation and realise they are not going to get massive salary or have much of a budget. Therefore it is true they have applied then we should be looking no further than this duo. Lots of experience and have done it before with Hyde. My choice would always be someone with credentials who is aware of the club's past and more to the point it's potential with a decent side.

A break from the previous regime & a manager who knows his stuff at this level.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Getting promoted again quickly would be pointless.Gazza wrote:Gary Lowe and his side kick must be aware of the club's financial situation and realise they are not going to get massive salary or have much of a budget. The next appointment needs to be a long term appointment who will be given time to change the way the club is run with a view to developing our own players.
Getting another manager from 100+ miles away will not break the cycle we have been in for as long as I can remember.
Now is the time to change direction, not to just carry on like we always have.

Serious question, taking my directors hat off. The one person mentioned in this thread who is local and could potentially fill this remit is Edmo, yet you've poured cold water on that idea.Reg wrote:Getting promoted again quickly would be pointless.Gazza wrote:Gary Lowe and his side kick must be aware of the club's financial situation and realise they are not going to get massive salary or have much of a budget. Who else locally fills that list of requirements?

Re: New Manager
After todays result, home defeat to Chester(he was apparently at the game),there is pressure mounting to have him back at Hyde. So if we want him we'd better be making a move.Gazza wrote:Gary Lowe and his side kick must be aware of the club's financial situation and realise they are not going to get massive salary or have much of a budget. Edmonson shouldn't get the job as he's already proved himself to be a below average manager at this level. If Wukkie fans don't want him, why on earth would we?Uncle Peter wrote:Serious question, taking my directors hat off. I was in a rush when I made that post but whoever the next manager is, IMO should be required to relocate to the area if they don't already live in the county. I might be wrong but I think Gary Lowe succeeded at Hyde after working with a big budget. My point is, I don't want us to appoint another manager that only turns up in Furness on matchdays with the players that have parachuted into the club having barely heard of it before being approached to play.
We have approximately 1000 disenfranchised people to win back. Sure, just buying a winning team will win a fair chunk of them back on a Saturday but we've already proven time and again that particular business model doesn't work in the long term.
Just look at how well the youth teams are doing and look at how well supported the U18's are. It shows that the interest is there and it shows that there is genuine talent in the area that hasn't been snapped up by big clubs battery farms.
However, I digress.
To answer your question, I want a manager I feel I can associate with. The names that spring to mind would be the likes of Doc, Henney, Skelton and Postlethwaite. None of them have managed at this level, so it would be a risk but it needs to be someone who will be granted patience from the supporters whilst we go through a much needed transitional phase.
A manager that is completely new to the club would not be granted that level of patience, especially if he was perceived to be working with a 'big' budget, or he was on 'big' money.
The BOD have done the hard part by getting shut of Bayliss. Now is the ideal time to lower fans expectations for the coming seasons by laying out a long term plan to bring everything about the club closer to home.
I doubt I'll be returning if we just go for someone who isn't likely to get the club off the track it's been running on since the early 90's.

Re: New Manager
Lowering the fans expectations over the next couple of seasons is a fair enough comment Ref and I don't disagree for one minute that going up at present is not what the club as a whole needs after the financial toll the previous 2 or 3yrs of conf prem football has had on the club. We cannot however afford this club to drop below this league and although no one is guaranteed to get us out if our current predicament I don't know if going for complete inexperience just because they have strong links to the area or club can be risked at this point. And just one question for you. Exactly what would it take to get you back to HolkervStreet, because at the minute it does not seem like anything the club do will be enough !

TK acknowledged a while back that the club goes in some crumby cycle. What better chance to break that cycle than now when we're very close, if not already at the bottom of it?
The next appointment will tell me all I need to know about the BOD's plans for the next 3-5 seasons. If I think their main intention is just to do as well as possible in the short term without laying some serious foundations for the future, I'll struggle to get behind it.
The older I get, the less I want to see a team that has absolutely no links to the town other than it's somewhere that they visit once per fortnight. I guess I have changed over the years and recent performances and events have brought that to a head.
The romance has gone for me and it would take a fans favourite getting the job to rekindle my interest I think.

Re: New Manager
There is of course another local person now living in the area with all the right back ground in management and experience as a player. Whether he would like to apply is another story....Ian McDonald.
When I spoke to Gary Brabin a couple of weeks ago he was still unemployed.

Re: New Manager
If people want a local person its edmonson/ henney who together would have a fair chance the present squad only need about 3 more decent players ,as for advocating living local ray wilkie vic halom das/dave they seemed to do alright to start everything local is a pipe dream and would take 10 years to reach an average standard and the club wouldn't survive because people now want success even if its shortlived if anyone thinks that this could/would happen are kidding themselves!
Don't get me wrong my sentiments are with you but it will never happen!

Re: New Manager
What is 10 years?
In the 25 years I've been following the club, there has effectively been no progress. Just various directors making the same mistakes previous directors have made.
The club will never make any big strides forwards using the methods it has used whilst I have been a supporter. So what if in 10 years time, we're still stuck at this level of the pyramid, we'll still be stuck at this level, or floundering in the one above no matter who we appoint.
At least if the club took the direction I'd like to see it take, we'd be cheering on local kids, who we'll have some kind of bond with, rather than some out of work scousers/mancs that we have to pay over the odds for to get them to travel 100 miles once per fortnight.
Folk harp on about saying no to modern football. We have our chance to do it right now. I doubt we will.

Re: New Manager
Not joking, there was a man today probably mid 40s near Barrow fans, was shouting instructions and expressing his thoughts to Barrow team, didn't seem like a fan but wanted us to win.
A few of us commented at half that we had never seen him before.
