Ormerod was sold by Accrington in 1997
Coleman became Accrington manager in 1999

Coleman might not have had a hand in the sell on clause but he sure spent the money. No accident that Accrington started their rise to the football league under Coleman right after they netted a huge fee from Ormerod's transfer from Blackpool to Southampton.

The figure they got was allegedly over £400K (See this Guardian article, 1st and 3rd paragraphs), on top of the £50K they got for selling him in the first place. It was Gordon Strachen who spotted him at Accrington and apparently vowed to buy him if he got into management again. Accrington were always going to demand a sell on clause after a statement like that. As Stephen points out it was nothing to do with Coleman but he sure benefited from it.

I recall a lot of banter at the time along the lines of, "see your still living off the Ormerod money" and "your only doing this well because of Ormerod money". Some denied it but most Accrington fans didn't, they knew what was buying the success. It allowed them to gain momentum that took them into the league, a decent manager with a fair bit of cash to spend. All we can hope for is a decent manager.

I think we're going to get at least one new name each night in the EM until the decision is made.

Look at some of the players who got us promoted last time Deasy/Tomlinson, McNulty,Jonah, Henney,Bond, Walker to name just a few and compare them to what we have got now.

We need a manager who knows non league well enough to be looking at much better players than we have now. I know the budget is less but I reckon its not too different to what it was when we had the above players part time a few years ago. Wheres Phil Wilson when you need him???
