Re: barrow 1933-34
That's quite a precious document you have there, Andy. Are you a Barrow fan or someone from away who just happens to have a piece of Barrow AFC history in your possession? I've checked out the Michael Gardner book, "The Definitive Barrow AFC" and can identify most of the names on there. Mind you, one thing that struck me is just how legible most of the signatures are. One of my little bugbears in life is how many people (especially when in important positions) have signatures which are are just lazy squiggles. I am guessing as to which ones you might struggle with, given that most are clearly legible, but here are a few of those names, as extracted from the book:
Cowie, Foster, Harbot, Lynch, Peed (yes it's clear enough but perhaps you didn't believe anyone would have the surname "Peed"), Postlethwaite, Roberts, Shankly, Starsmore (yes Starsmore and not Stansmore as you might think), Tinnion and Wassell.
Jimmy Shankly was the brother of Bill Shankly and scored 38 goals for us in 42 League appearances in 1933-34. Oh Jimmy, if only you could have been on the field for us last night against Brackley. I'm not confident we will get 38 goals this season from all of our team combined. Matthew Robinson also got 25 goals in 40 League appearances that year.

Re: barrow 1933-34
Wasn't that the season where we had 3 hattricks in one game, or where Shankly got 5, or where we beat Gateshead 12-1 or something???
Seem to remember crazy things happening around then (well, reading about them) but don't have bible to hand.

With proper pens, too. None of that new-fangled disposable ballpoint rubbish. Quill and ink; that's how real men write their signatures.pjdaly wrote:Mind you, one thing that struck me is just how legible most of the signatures are. Re: barrow 1933-34
Andy, as Boylie asked above, how much do you want for this? Talk figures and let's see if it's sensible!
Shaun, you're right, we beat Gateshead 12-1 at Holker Street in the last game of the season on 5th May 1934. The attendance was 3330 (a few more than we had watching us against Brackley last night) and Shankly got 5, Robinson 4, Foster 2 and our friend Peed just the one. We finished 8th in Division 3 North that season.
