If a person at any company is on a fixed-length contract then the employer has to pay them for the contract term even if they fire them. This applies to most football managers, as most are signed on fixed-length contracts - although not necessarily at this level.

Most employees are on a rolling contract with a notice period which either party can invoke. Your employer would have to pay you for that period if they fired you.

They aren't the same thing, and how a manager leaves a club is entirely down to their specific contract. We can't exactly compare football managers to "normal" employee contracts, but at the same time we can't necessarily compare non-league (sub-conference, at any rate) contracts to those in the Premier/Football League.

I was told on Monday we'd more than likely go for the easier option but I was still holding out hope for Lowe or Macauley.

I hope all the stay aways will return now the board seem to have bottled it, don't think they will though.
