I don't fancy sitting at Ulverston like a spare part waiting for somebody to turn up.

I would imagine the lads who are meeting at the ground will get to Ulverston about 9:20
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
A murder of Barrow Supporters (is that the correct collective noun or is it a ‘seethe’?) gathered early doors and a brief discussion of the previous day’s debacle took place. A group was formed of those who were still spitting feathers the most and these were quickly despatched out of harm’s way to Ulverston in two vans to wreak havoc on an unsuspecting pre-fabricated garage.
Setting to the task with some vigour - sparks, bolts and swear words were soon flying in a mist of WD40. One of the volunteers who earlier had given a brief on safety allowed a falling joist to strike him on the bonce to demonstrate the need for caution. A methodical dismantling process soon evolved, the hands working like a well-WD40’d machine to shift approximately 20 concrete sections, associated structural components and an up-and-over door onto the vans and trailers and on their way back to the FBSS.
A superb operation by a scratch team enabled by much-welcomed drinks from the garage owner’s family members. A video was made of the proceedings which will be shown to the players before the Maidenhead game to give them an idea of what a bit of thought, graft and teamwork to achieve an objective looks like.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Really enjoyed it even though I felt embarrassed not being able to do any heavy lifting due to a dislocated collarbone. Good crack with a well organised group, I hope the police didn't catch sight of those heavily laden vans and trailers on their way back to the Theatre of Nightmares.Wintergreen wrote:A murder of Barrow Supporters (is that the correct collective noun or is it a ‘seethe’?) gathered early doors and a brief discussion of the previous day’s debacle took place. Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Well that was the Ulverston side of things.
Meanwhile back at the business end.
Our squad which included myself, Ian (WVJ) Pete Nichols & Steve Leonard shot off to the back enterance of our favourite accountants office (office Steve!! don't get excited;) ) where he started to show us all the tables & filing cabinets that he was giving us, You would have thought he'd have had them on the ground floor awaiting pick-up wouldn't you? you'd be wrong - top bloody floor!!!!
As me & Peter started shifing the first metal desk & drawers down more steps than lead to the cenotaph we heard a noise below us....burgalers or perhaps the police wondering why there was a van & car at the back of an accountants on a Sunday morning with the door wide open, no, it was Steve & Ian (WVJ) with a desk, how did they get passed us we thought? there's only one set of stairs.............in a lift!!! which Steve very conveniently forgot to tell us they had.
Anyway, two trips later we had everything back at base camp, Steve shot off quick sharp to tidy his office up which I'd upset him about saying how it looked like a shit hole. He sent me a text later with a picture of his newly tidied office
We then had a spare hour so me, Ian (WVJ) & Peter carried on with the bits & pieces on the new shop behind the pop side.
bigcod123 turned up & Whitty 69 showed him our directors attempts at being a spark. After an hour or so of laughter bigcod went into the GMA & started sorting out some new lighting in there for us. Really helpful to have him there with us now as all the electrical work was getting a bit too much for one person.
Mike Forsyth took all the empty paint tins to the tip where he was immediatly pounced upon by a very keen council employee. There were that many tins matey-boy thought he was a professional painter & decorator wanted to see his licence for using the tips facilities
I think Mike also hung around to help unload the vans & trailers that had the garage on as I had to go at midday.
John Mackay & Les were cleaning the changing rooms out & washing the kits, part of which some vey thougtfull players had decided to leave in the dugout instead of taking them back to where they belong....unreal, they must think they play for a premiership club & want waiting on hand & foot.
They also seem to struggle with how to put their empty bottles & rubbish in the bins we've provide them with in the changing room as they just throw them all over
.
All in all, a very good morning & a very decent turn-out.

Ref: kit left in dugout and state changing room was left. This sums up perfectly the attitude of the playing staff and the team management. Absolutely no pride in playing or being part of our great club.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
The changing rooms have always been left in a disgusting state---well for the last 18 months I have been cleaning the club so this lot are no different to the previous incumbents. I think the idea behind the upgrading of the changing room was to give them a sense of pride and treat the place with respect for all the hard work put in by the fans involved in it. Obviously that hasn't worked.Jammydodger wrote:Ref: kit left in dugout and state changing room was left. This sums up perfectly the attitude of the playing staff and the team management. I did try and sort this out at the start of the season by asking them to use the bin and the result was two of the young Under lads were given the task. Perhaps they too have got fed up.
Why grown men are unable to place rubbish in bins that are already in the changing room I don't know.
Personally if it was up to me I would leave it how they left it for the next game and see if that gets the message home.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I was speaking to JM about this last Sunday morning Elaine & he said whoever the next manager is (he said that without even smiling) he's going to make a point of telling him he's got to put across to his players that the dressing room has to be left in some sort of decent state by the players.
It doesn't help when the answer they've had in the past was "they're footballers" like that is some sort of excuse!! I think a couple of USE THE BINS PROVIDED signs wont go amiss, unless they can't read because "they're footballers"

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Just a quick update on what's been going on at the ground yesterday & today.
Ian (RVJ) & Exile have been there the last two days knocking up all the seperate pieces for the false ceiling in the press box including the frames it will all fit in to.
It sounds like they've had two good sessions as they've completed nine sections & undercoated them, the final coat will go on when they're actually in position as they're bound to get scuffed as we drop them into their respective frames.
This is the sort of thing we hoped would happen when we set off fourteen months ago, people who can make it down there during weekdays are more than welcome to carry on with the work rather than trying to make it on the more "normal" Friday afternoons & Sunday mornings.
If you feel like you can stick some hours in during the week just let us know & we'll have the job's lined up for you
Elaine was also there, probably singing to herself & making too many brews for Exile & Ian (RVJ) & stopping them working
Only joking Elaine, the dressing room clean up is never the same when you don't do it.
Gareth was down there again getting the pitch ready & probably using his new toy (the roller) again, hopefully now with this being bought the pitch will start to lose some of it's uneveness.
Gareth put's in more hours down there than he's contracted to do & must be saving the club a small fortune, not to mention all the time he put in during the summer when nothing was being done to the pitch before he started.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Exile and Ian (rvj) worked hard in the maintenance area yesterday, preparing the frames for the press box and Exile was busy showing off his expertise with a paint roller now he has been instructed by a very helpful man at Wards on the correct way to use one.
They do distract me though with all the talking they want to do.!!!!
Gareth and Craig working hard on the ground as usual, They must be there everyday and now he has the roller we will see a big improvement in the pitch. Oh yes we need a spiker too. I think it is about £1,000.
When I discovered there was no water supply to the toilets on the popular side they went on an expedition to rectify this. They are a sight to behold when they are on a mission of mercy, assisted by Gareth the groundsman. Clambering on walls, up ladders, circumnavigating the ground to investigate a pipe that was on the garage side of the wall, no stone was unturned in their quest.
There's still no water.
In fairness they did discover what needs to be done and Ian or Mike Forsyth will make sure the toilets are in working order for Saturday otherwise can you all be catheterised before attending the game.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
As most of you probably drive to the ground I don't know if you will have noticed that a chunk of the rendering has fallen off the wall on the corner of Wilkie Rd and Holker St. If we have any more high winds and it gets behind it we could lose a huge chunk of it and it is a danger to passers by.

Footballers seem to be a breed apart - they have a limited amount of intelligence yet have an unparalleled sense of entitlement.Holkerbird wrote:The changing rooms have always been left in a disgusting state---well for the last 18 months I have been cleaning the club so this lot are no different to the previous incumbents. How about subbing £10 from their wages for cleaning etc - the only thing most of them are more obsessed about than themselves is their wage packet. Hit them where it hurts. Or lock the changing rooms and let them get changed in the car park. Most of the current lot won't be making much of a living from the game for much longer, they need a lesson in how the real world works.
