Because of the train dep time I am also suggesting to Barrow and the police WE are let out first so fans can catch the train, as it is the last one!

Believe Northern will be arranging a special call at the currently unused Wilkie Road Halt.

If they 'cook' anything edible on the Popular Side I would consider that special.

Bit of a difference tho isn't there,

As much as you'd like to think we have evened the score giving you the holker end
As many have already pointed out, where as you gave us the only stand in your ground where you can create an atmosphere, we are giving the 30 Hearty souls who travel from wukkie 90mins in the elements getting battered by gales and the famous barrow sideways rain.

Enjoy ;)

It's nothing new to us rockerlad, the club have been ignoring tradition and what people want as far as this issue goes for a good few seasons now so it's sad but not at all surprising.

Can someone from the club (probably Pete) please explain why this continues to happen, and why again the West Terrace hasn't been used? Things like this are making much, much more difference than the board have ever realised.

Holker street open terrace no atmosphere and you will get soaked by the rain you are welcome too it.

Well come back you have been missing since Arnison's penalty.

+1. Anyone that thinks the board have even the slightest consideration for and empathy with the common fan (customer!) is naive at best and deluded at worst.

To put it nicely, fans are a downright inconvenience.

Not sure, but I have an idea it's John McKay who is the board member responsible for safety. It was he who posted a separate thread with the same information.

So kieran if we gave them another area would you be at the hse in the driving rain and gales? I very much doubt it.if we gave them part of the pop side would you be happier?

When we held a meeting about the Holker End for Barrow fans about 5 people turned up!! and most of them don't even stand on it.
I came to the conclusion it wasn't that important to anyone. Well not enough to turn up and do something about it.

Kieran has already stated he thinks they should be in the west terrace. I agree with him although I am not too fussed about the Holker end being given to them as I prefer the popular side and it'll mean they get exposed to the elements.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Kie, I'll try and explain as best I can.

The board really do understand that this is an issue people feel strongly about. Please don't think I'm not acutely aware of that.

When looking at segregation, we are fairly tied by the authorities and essentially have to follow advice given. The west terrace simply isn't suitable for away fans as in the past the car park by reception has been a flash point (York at home a few years ago) and there has been issues having a away fans underneath the windows for the bar. The HSE is also the easiest place from a control perspective to get the away fans in and out of the ground as quickly as possible.

The only way to totally mitigate any risks is to have them at the HSE, and the new segregation should be in place early 2014 so this should be the last time this happens.

I know I'll probably get shot down, but the club, the safety officer and Police are liable if anything goes wrong, so we have to make unpopular decisions sometimes. It's not something that's done lightly.

In a nutshell that's the reasoning behind the decision.

Me and my top boys ‘The Notso Firm’ stand on the HSE every game and if there’s a spot of rain we run for the Wilkie Stand as if we were made of papier-mâché as do most of the stalwarts thereof. I would think it would be deserted for the duration of the Workington game if there wasn't segregation. I know it’s rare - but the forecast is heavy rain and strong winds.

For our Workington colleagues the Visitors turnstile is opposite the brick wall over the railway lines along the side of the stadium. I think you will be allowed into the Stand using a transfer ticket for £14 which would seriously be your best bet.

Is Stand entry allowed for this one Pete/John? It does seem to be used as a ‘neutral zone’ for travelling supporters with no problems - please advise.

This new segregation that will be ready in early 2014, I presume that still involves giving away fans part of the Holker End? If so it won't solve anything, the point is that away fans should never be given all or part of the Holker End. The fact people don't stand there when it rains is neither here nor there, it's about tradition and shouldn't be happening. Surely the fact that the GM people proudly erected a sign on that end is an indication of how important that end is to people.

Sorry Pete, but I just don't buy your/the board's reasoning. Theres been flashpoints outside the Holker End too, most notably against Newport a couple of seasons ago. If idiots want to create trouble they can do it anywhere. Are you saying the Police have insisted the Holker End be used? If so that hasn't been true in the past when the club have told us it has. There is absolutely no reason why the West Terrace can't be used safely, as it has done hundreds of times in the past. My belief is that certain members of the board are refusing to back down on this issue out of sheer stubborness, and it stinks. I really don't believe that the board realise how much damage issues like this are doing. On one hand they ask for support and crowds to come back, then on the other they are flying in the face of tradition and going against what people want. Is it any wonder people are [SwearFilter] off?
