Brackley
Re: Brackley
Certainly not getting carried away
as Brackley's early season form that put them top had evaporated before today and they are currently 16th in the form table. They have dropped to 6th having only won 2 game in their last 10. Not promotion form at all, but having said that... Roll on Telford!

That was quick Peter, you can't do everything. We should be shouting our recent success from the rooftops and updating that table, Wukkie are shown as above us.Uncle Peter wrote:I'm looking into it. BARROW AFC earn superb victory at Brackley Town
Last updated at 21:45, Tuesday, 14 January 2014
A LATE Gareth Arnison header earned Barrow AFC a 2-1 victory at Conference North promotion contenders Brackley Town.
AFC were the better passing team in the first half and deserved to head into the break with a one-goal advantage.
And they made the better start although there were no chances of note created in the opening stages with Sam Sheridan's 30-yarder being blocked.
Brackley burst into life on a few occasions with Owen Story twice misfiring. But AFC took the lead in style with Colin Cowperthwaite – who was handed a full debut after recovering from a toe injury - collecting Sheridan's diagonal pass, beating a Brackley man with a superb touch before stabbing the ball beyond Saints keeper Billy Turley and into the net.

Re: Brackley
Not long got back - what an evening!!!
Never stopped raining and pretty darned cold but can't say I noticed a bit. What an awesome display. Every single player put in the most immense effort and we produced some real quality football in testing conditions. One of, if not the best match I have seen us play in the last 5 years. Everyone should hold their head high, even the much maligned Robbie Williams.
We carried a threat all night, zipped the ball around on the wet turf and had a new found urgency and confidence that I have not seen for a long time. We could and should have been 2 or 3 up at half time and when Brackley equalised we had to endure a torrid 5-10 minutes but back we came once again. Edmo also made positive subs at the right time, pushing for 3 points which duly came off.
I could pick out a number of players for special praise but rather than do that I will just say they were all awesome and the fact Turley was Brackley's man of the match says it all. Great support from those of us that were there as well which the squad really seemed to appreciate at the end.
Superb night and so glad I was there

Re: Brackley
Barrow deserved the three points tonight; they were simply the better team, playing positive, attacking football which could easily have resulted in a greater goal tally. Both goals were well taken. Niall Cowperthwaite's 22nd minute opener came after some good approach play and his old man would have been proud of the way he finished it off. Brackley's Moore pulled the home side level four minutes after the break, a goal that owed as much to the increasingly slippery surface as anything else, and earlier in the season this could well have resulted in a Barrow capitulation. But this Barrow side buckled down and piled on the pressure, and were duly rewarded by Gareth Arnison netting the winner with five minutes to go.
Brackley did have their chances but were let down by some poor finishing, but Barrow were the better side on the night and the home side can have no complaints about the result. It was an entertaining game played in continual heavy rain, with Nick Rushton being Barrow's man-of-the-match for me, but it would be difficult to find fault with any of the players on the night. If they can play even half as well as this for the remaining games, then the threat of relegation will be a distant memory. The Barrow fans who made it to Brackley - a good number for a long trip on a wet Tuesday night - saw what the team are capable of; let's hope that increasing number of supporters will come back to Holker Street and witness the improvement since the new manager took over.
It should also be noted that discipline seems to have improved under Darren Edmonson; we will still pick up cards for the inevitable mis-timed tackle, but the needless bookings for dissent should be greatly reduced.

Re: Brackley
Just back to Barrow now, an unexpected but thoroughly deserved victory!
Our pressing and high-tempo game really is a joy to watch, never giving the opposition a chance to settle sees us time and time again winning the ball back and looking to get forward. Lacey and the two loan boys Corner and Rushton are probably the best two examples of this, just don't give the other team a seconds peace. Brilliant to see Ted Cribley sign for the season, getting better and better and I thought he was excellent tonight. Cowps's goal was quality, bit of a nothing cross into the edge of the area and he controlled it and took on the defender in one move, darted past him then poked it past the oncoming keeper - proper strikers finish. Thought defensively at full back he got turned quite easily and given the run around, but looked comfortable marauding down the flanks and put in some decent balls. Reynolds once again quietly excellent but in truth both O'Donnell and Robbie Williams had (for the most part) comfortable, solid games. Excellent save towards the end from a McMillan, and a superb headed finish after a nice intelligent little drop off the defender from Arni too.
Good times!

I actually did that as i hoped he might read it and inspire him. Looks like it worked.Richard Ingham wrote:Oh ye of little faith Alboyliegladbach wrote:Thought we might get a point tonight, I doubt that now I see Williams is playing.
Or maybe I was just wrong.
Re: Brackley
To me last nights result was far more enlightening than the previous four.Yes,Brackley have slipped since the start but they have moved to halt the slide bringing in a striker, who scored last night, with Premiership experience (If you believe some forums reputed to be on up to £500 a week). We were minus 3 players,Eddy,Burns and Davies who have been instrumental in our recent revival. A fourth,Harvey, was on the bench not fully fit.Willis,Williams and SOG came into the side although none of them have kicked a ball in anger for the last month (and surprisingly all lasted the full 90 minutes). The same could be said of Meeks who was on the bench. For Edmo to mold these into a competitive bunch, never mind a winning one, was tactical genius (hope that makes both of Wukkies fans choke). There may/will be blips ahead. If we can ride them out and recover the future is looking a lot brighter than it was before Xmas.

Re: Brackley
A most invigorating night's football and a really entertaining game that possibly could have gone either way. What really impressed about Barrow though was our fight, our determination and our teamwork. The early second-half equaliser could have seen heads drop and subsequent capitulation. No chance, this manager and the players went to Brackley to win and take the three points and the double attacking substitution made sure of it. Well done to the manager for having the guts to do this. Great scenes at the end of the game and well done to the Barrow support at the game which materialised from all directions.
Nowhere near the finished article obviously and there will be tough days ahead too. However, the restoration of pride and accumulation of points over the last few matches is a real fillip for us all and we can hopefully start to look forward with cautious optimism.

Ok, I'm not too proud to admit that I wouldn't ever have expected to have seen stats like that after the kind of form we were showing in the first 3 months of the season.mickmike wilson wrote:Last 5 games form guide

Re: Brackley
It is worth pointing out that Brackley did not play badly last night. They took a full part in what was a very enjoyable and entertaining game. One of the Plymouth lads that plays pool with us came along last night and he was amazed at the quality of the game - I have to say that it was streets ahead of anything I have seen at this level all season.
One of their directors (also my daughters headmaster) recognised me at the end and was very complimentary on how we fully deserved the result and also very gracious in defeat I have to say. They are a really friendly little club that I hope to have the chance to go back to again. We were also made most welcome in the Locomotive pub pre-match and at £2 a pint I will try and get there a little earlier next time.
Nice to see the mood lifted on here - roll on Telford
