Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Quite a busy afternoon today for a couple of hours, plenty of people using the club as there was a deafness claim thing going on..nice to see the rooms used for other things
meanwhile in the workshop,
we now have a rack to put the perimeter pitch wall signs in so we can flick through them easier now as theres around 50 lying there not used.
A new lad Andy popped down and started fitting galvo sheets to the bottom of the players tunnel in the pouring rain...hows that for dedication, many thanks Andy
great start to your volunteer career
Graphix dropped off 2 new signs to fit(more work) 1 is starlight karaoke on the outside of the ground,(offering a generous package for all you night doos in conjunction with the crossbar) the other turnstone consultants new design.
Red van joiner popped in as we discussed the next phase of the press box as he,s raring to go in a weeks time.
all in all a very busy couple of hours as the weather worsened

Sorry, not on tomorrow Jonty. We're going to try & get things moving properly again next week when quite a few seem up for it so if the offers still there we'll see you & anyone else that's ready for a bit of ground sprucing then.
I'll be popping down but just to show Daz Curtis a tutor from the college (also a Barrow supporter) what work needs doing that his students can possibly help out with. I'll stick a post up with what he say's tomorrow - this could be a massive help to us.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I met Daz (Furness college tutor) at the ground this afternoon & showed him what we'd like them to help us with. The first job is knocking down & closing off the gap of Vaughans car park which will also allow us to make a start on doubling up on the toilet block that is already in place. He's coming down next Sunday morning (our next bigger planned visit) to finalise things from the college's point of view & to make sure we have all the things in place he's asked me for. They will then have their first visit to the ground the following Wednesday where they will start by half of them knocking down the old wall & saving the blocks while the others start the prep work for the re-building.
So as I say, the next planned visit is next Sunday morning (although people do now go during the week to carry on with projects, which is exactly how we wanted it to work in the first place) Any help will be greatly appreciated by all who normally go down there.
We're still looking for some tressels and/or staging otherwise this is going to really hold up the students starting work if we can't get hold of any (all to do with H & S)
As well as all the other jobs that are ongoing we could do with some new faces to help by taking the wall down or just to help with the foundation digging. We also need an electrician to help re-route the cable supplying the turnstiles that runs along the top of the wall (where are our regular sparks when you need them
)
Plumbers......getting a bit desperate for one or two of these now, toilet blocks cannot be started without us getting a bit of advice first.
Daz will also mention to the college about job experience for their painters & decorators which would be a massive help with any work we want to do in the Cross Bar in the coming months, they also have plasterers available so they should come in handy all over the ground, places like the outside wall, the inside of the new toilets etc.
Please see if you can help out with any of the above, materials, labour/time or if your feeling flush (excuse the pun, sounding like Russ Dodd now
) a donation to help these projects along.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I think we might be there on Friday afternoon for an hour or two but definitely Sunday morning when we really could do with as much help as possible as the jobs keep piling up & we simply haven't got the time to finish some let alone start some others.finbar17 wrote:Back in barrow for a week tomorrow happy to come and help out on any of the days if someone could let me know the craic.
Some projects are luxuries that we can put off, others are not.
No particular skills needed, just your help.
Digging some small foundations.
Helping out with the press box.
Assembling the garage for the groundsman.
Taking down a wall.
Shuttering off for the concrete base ready for the cement to be poured in.
Taking down some signs.
Putting some new signs up.
Mixing cement for Tommy to re-build the wind damaged wall.
Litter picking.
Small joinery jobs.
Bit of prep work in the first aid room before painting.
Painter for the first aid room.
Still after some scaffolding gear whether it's a loan or donation. Does anyone have a pick axe they can donate or loan us?
Capman, can the sand be dropped off in Vaughans car park for this weekend?

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Two jobs for you electrical types, the lighting in the GMA needs sorting & the cable that runs around the wall of Vaughans car park will need re-routing, it supplies the power for the turnstiles but is totally out in the open so shouldn't be too hard to sort
Looking like a good turn-out is on the cards for Sunday. If anyone else is going to make it can you either PM, text, e-mail or just let me or mrssenorita know tomorrow at the game so we have a rough idea what jobs we can crack on with.
There isn't a limit to how many we can keep busy as there's absolutely shed loads to do & a big turn-out will knock plenty off the list.
