The achievements of Darren Edmondson so far must have taken even himself by surprise and while no one is taking anything for granted, these are great days to be a Barrow AFC supporter. However, one player - Duran Reynolds has been immense from the very start of the season and in every game I have seen this season he has been outstanding. What has happened is that everyone in the back four or five are now starting to perform to Duran’s level.

Yesterday against North Ferriby he gave the league’s top strikers no change and even when he was head butted his professionalism was there as there was minimal reaction as their striker saw red. This cool headedness kept him at the club early doors when the former manager allegedly had him by the throat up against a wall; I’m sure he could have thrown the former manager around like a rag doll but chose not to.

So well done Duran thanks for the inspiration and the perspiration, you could play at a much higher level and I hope that it’s with Barrow. “You're indestructible, Always believe in, because you are Gold!”

I always thought he was our best C/B but he's come on leaps & bounds under Edmo - I suppose that can be said of virtually the whole team!
Who honestly would have thought Williams would be capable of turning in the type of performances he's doing now, Sheridan looked a defeated man two months ago, Lacey & Davies looked average (at best) O'Donnel was a shadow of the player he looked last season, it really is an amazing turnaround.

Burns just edges it for me as he was playing well even when the rest of the team were struggling. A nice modest lad who always shouts and encourages the others and continued to do so even when we were losing. Always thought Lacey was a good player and could see the potential there.
At one of the away games I liked the way McMillan was shouting and encouraging Robbie particularly when he had made a mistake, telling him to forget it and keep going. A measure of the team spirit that is carrying them through.
For Reynolds to stick with it and commute from Lincolnshire is a testament to his commitment to the club and I believe Digger Davies travels from Walsall---long journey's for home games.
Well done to all these lads and long may it continue.
Now let's get these bodies on a coach for Worcester.

I agree with your thread, Gary, up to a point. Duran has been tremendous and inspirational and could surely perform at a higher level. But I agree with Barrow Fan Chris (and I have said this before) that the one who has performed most consistently all season (well the very first match against Brackley apart) has been Andy Burns. That lad's enthusiasm and commitment to the cause has shone out every match, even when we were dire. We have had no end of heroes in the last 6 or 7 weeks but in the first four months of the season very few players were really getting stuck in match after match. I agree that Duran was playing well even during the bad times, and during those months it was his central defensive partners that were more to blame; his only lesser performances were when he was stuck out at left back on a few occasions and he got a bit exposed for not being the paciest of players. Then again though, it wasn't his fault if he was being played out of position when he is clearly much more at home as a central defender than as a left full back.

The other player who I feel deserves a special mention is our keeper, McMillan. When our defence was more wide open and exposed than the Somerset Levels, and the goals were being shipped at an alarming rate, it would have been easy to attach at least some of the blame to McMillan. But I think I can only recall one howler all season, despite the flood of goals against. He seems a very safe and secure handler and he would be one of the first I would be looking to try and get signed on again for next season. I think he is a very impressive keeper.

Paddy is another who has generally put the effort in and for a long while it appeared that he had a capacity for getting stuck in but little in the way of footballing ability. Now, in recent matches, it's really pleasing to see him developing as a very decent player and not just as a work-horse. He is coming on leaps and bounds and there is a footballer beginning to emerge that I didn't think was there earlier in the season. He's still got some way to go but maybe he can become our new Hulbert.

what about Davies? it`s no coincidence we struggled when he was injured and when we beat guiseley he led by example nothing fancy just total committment!

to be honest though i think the whole squad deserve credit they all seem so solid and together,i have to keep pinching myself because yesterday seems a million miles from those dark november days!

Burns still best player at present but if the team's current form continues till anywhere near the end of the season then Reynolds and Rushden will run him close I think. Until 6 weeks ago you could have given player of the year to Burns then, he was that far ahead.

I've seen every home game this season so that's banjo'd your first comment. I'm not suggesting Burns hasn't been as good as Duran - because he has, but the bulk of the action seems to be down the middle where the back three have been superb with Duran outstanding and constantly in the thick of it and winning his battles. So an appreciation of Duran Reynolds does not equate to the denigration of any other squad player.

Shame really as given the experience and know how of Simon Grand and Danny Livesey and given enough game time I am sure they would have improved Duran as a player even more. IMO Duran has the potential to play at a much higher level, sad that it's not going to be with us. Ultimately it seems the travelling was just too much in the end, good luck Duran with your future and thanks for the great commitment and desire you shown in your time at Barrow AFC.
