Kids free permanently has been tried in the past and hasn't worked.
We will however be repeating the ticket offer with blocks of schools over the remaining games of the season.

Given our current form and events of the last few days this game has 'party poopers' written all over it (Not negative just 50 years experience of supporting Barrow AFC). Oxford are desperate for points and came close to snatching one at North Ferriby last week. As someone has already said this will be a big test of Edmos motivational skills making sure we are up for it. Still think we will win though !

Just trying to follow the logic here. If we give out free tickets at school that works but if we publicise free entry for kids it doesn't?Uncle Peter wrote:Kids free permanently has been tried in the past and hasn't worked.

Re: Barrow V Oxford City
I'd imagine lack of publicity and "specialness" would be one reason.
Mums/Dads/Brothers will probably quite happily take there kids along for free on a one off if they get a ticket, but if it becomes every week the special occasion factor would wear off for both the kids and the adults...

If we just say "kids free" the message goes to the parents, not the kids. Kids don't read the mail, website etc.

Re: Re: Re:
If you are seriously looking at the idea of kids for free, why not get some kids season tickets made up? A local company could sponsor them to cover the costs of production, and it'll give the kids something to make them feel wanted by the club, aswell as a tool to remind them and pester their parents, and get them in the habit of coming regularly/buying a season ticket?Uncle Peter wrote:Basically the kids take the tickets home and pester power kicks in.DaveP wrote: Just trying to follow the logic here. When? I don't recall it ever being tried on a permanent basis.Uncle Peter wrote:Kids free permanently has been tried in the past and hasn't worked
For it to really work it needs to be done over a sustained period, and by that I mean years. Doing it as a one off, or even a handful of times a season is neither here nor there and won't have any significant impact.
When we were down at Telford a few weeks ago I got chatting to an old guy who was involved in setting up their new club when the old one ran into trouble. I asked him why they now get crowds of 1500-2000 when the old club only averaged around 600-800. His reply was that they allowed under 16's in for a quid for a number of seasons and that built the fan base they have today. I think Telford is a well known example, but it's a good one and one glance around their ground on a match day tells you it works when you look at the number of young-ish adults in their support.
We should've done it a long time ago but instead we've allowed our support to die off/get fed up/stop going for whatever reason and replaced them with nothing. Times have changed and clubs need to be much more proactive in attracting new supporters, but sadly we've failed on this front.

Re: Barrow V Oxford City
I think in terms of impact Pete has a good point, if you are running it as a promotion, he's right.
However, a free u11 ST would be a great shout, I guess you could distribute them through schools but I don't think that would necessarily be cost or organisationally effective. Maybe if the production cost was reasonable and offset, in fact, you could have it like a junior membership card or something I suppose.
Another way through adults is for Aberdeen (I know, bear with me) offer U12 free season tickets to any adult who buys a season ticket.
I think with adults we should be concentrating on the 400 or so lost from the Conf average as well. Maybe a free adult ticket for every member ('Bring them home') type of thing.

Fed up with 'should of, could of, might of etc. My last sentence is probably on the wrong thread. It should've been posted on the 'Things that get on my nerves' jobby.

Kieran, your right. If your about after the game pop up to the bar and have a crack with Rich Ingham. He's meeting with the commercial group and I think your insights at Telford could be a good start point.
Steve, same for you!
If you can't make it I'll use what you've posted above.
Cheers

Massive +1
Standard we tried it before and it didn't work doesn't wash with me.
It was never promoted and wasn't given long enough.
Hopefully if we get a new owner he isn't as short sighted as the current crop we have on the board.

Re: Barrow V Oxford City
The free for every kid idea should be the target. However, using the free tickets to schools is your way in. It proves it works in the short term and gives the kids a push, as they are being given something. Saying it's free doesn't do that. Get some very simpleA4 pieces of paper put the schools name on it and the fixture and chop it into 10 tickets! We used to get a scrappy little ticket in the 90's but it was still special. If you do it for every home game from now you will have more chance of them returning next season with their dads.
Don't stop when your on top, go for it and make a permanent change. Use the happy vibes while they are there!

Going off topic guys but it is vitally important this; well done Pete & Co. for working hard to try and make this scheme finally take off properly. I love the smell of Barrow AFC in the morning.
