Just a foot note to the discussion, I knew and worked with Paul’s father for a number of years and if he turns out to be as genuine, honest and reliable as his father we will have no worries at all about his intensions or his motives to do what is best for our football club. I for one have no doubt about his integrity, and his love for the football club we all hold so close to our hearts.
As mentioned previously (I'm not keen on the term) 'it really is a no brainier' and I would encourage every member to vote YES if they have the best interests of the club at heart. Lets not waste a once in a lifetime opportunity. I've always dreamt about this miracle happening for almost fifty years it defiantly is to good to miss.

If all goes tits up and he wants out, what's to stop a members trust being formed and rebuying the ground themselves? Considering our debts now probably at least total the value of the ground we'd be in no worse state with a new members company owning the ground under a mortgage?*
To be honest, we have three options to chose:
1) We stay as we are
2) We take Casson up on his proposal
3) Someone finds/comes up with another alternative going forward
I was more answering Leo's question Ste not saying we shouldn't accept the offer, but I do think we could perhaps do something to get some sort of safeguards to be considered for the future.
I don't think there'd be time for a new company/Trust to be set up that could get enough money raised to buy the ground.

Short video of him here from Monday nights meeting.

http://www.nwemail.co.uk/afc/news/casso ... ex=1#video

Comes across as a likeable lad who has a passion for his home town and wants to do the best for it.

I think I'll be voting yes

correct me if i`m wrong but as we are now if say we went into administration(even though we are a members club) couldn`t we still lose the ground?

so if this is right(and without investment it could realistically happen),we seem to be getting wound up over something that may never arise!

there is no other option left but to accept mr casson`s offer or tread water and eventually die!

Just out of interest - genuine question - has anyone, or does anyone know anyone yet, who has come out against this proposal, or has serious reservations for whatever reason? I haven't heard, or heard of one single person against it.

Just wondering, like.

I haven't Shaun but I know of a number who will await the formal proposal and the board's recommendation (and perhaps take note of who the proposed directors are to be) before making their mind up.

Not sure whether you class this as serious reservation, Shaun.
To me it's like we're being asked to give away a daughter that we've loved and nurtured over the years. OK, she might not be the prettiest on the block and she might not have a lot of suitors, but she's ours. Now, we're being asked for her hand in marriage to the first guy that comes along waving a wad of greenbacks. It seems to me that some are already pushing her up the aisle - on roller skates - after the first date! Yes, he might be "a very nice young man" but shouldn't we be asking some questions about how he's going to care for her when it's no longer "moons and Junes and ferris wheels" (to quote Joni Mitchell); when/if things turn ugly - as most marriages do at some point. What then? Is he going to walk away and have her come crying back to us? It's important.

The leagues are littered with clubs that have lit the sky and then crashed and burned when something like this happens - Colne Dyamoes/Gretna anyone? That's not to say I don't want it to happen, I do, but I just want us to be sure this young man's intentions are good and we're nor going to end up with a daughter nursing a broken heart.

I just want to see more meat on the bones (wow, I'm really mixing my clichés) of what was apparently presented on Monday, that's all, before giving a wholehearted yes.
It all comes 'round again.

Another view may be that you have a cherished car which is very old and falling apart. If you do nothing it will need to be scrapped OR you can let someone have it who promises to restore it and look after it.

He may not do so but better some chance than no chance??

Just an alternative view.

I like your way of thinking, both of you lads.

The only view is the real view. A once football league side that has languished between conference and conference north since dropping out of the football league. The last visit to the conference nearly killed us off and what would happen under the current regime if Edmo does the unthinkable and gets us there at the end of the season. Where will the money come from to manage just one season in the conference. It wont !!!!! Would we end up becoming a Chester or Halifax having to start again (without any money like them) from even lower down the football pyramid.
This is the chance for Barrow to finally stand up and let other teams know we wont go quietly into the dark, we are gonna start kicking and screaming our way back into hopefully the football league. No longer will teams not want to come here for the distance but because we are the team to be feared.
Only voting YES can make this happen

So really then, if everyone is behind it (well, assuming any lingering concerns or questions are put to bed)... the only real concern is that some legal red tape 75% thing might knacker the whole thing up?
Seems stupid if (and it seems so, providing all is answered) virtually every person to a man (or woman) wants this thing to happen.

to nigel bamford , i can see where you are coming from but if you can make it to this friday`s meeting with the directors ask them what they think,i honestly

don`t believe they would get invoved in any of this if they thought "our club" would be at risk(even though they are owed money!)

sometimes nige you just have to let go!
