Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Exile must have been down earlier in the week and litter picked as it had been done when I checked so the only litter will be from the Under 14 game tonight, hopefully not too much.

Yep, he was down there on Sunday. I think he said Craig (Gareths employee) helped him empty the smaller bins into the big ones.Holkerbird wrote:Exile must have been down earlier in the week and litter picked as it had been done when I checked so the only litter will be from the Under 14 game tonight, hopefully not too much.
Did you notice if the skip has been emptied Elaine?
Great to see so many people just turn up & do all the little bit's that help keep the ground in reasonable condition.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Strange sort of morning at the ground today, three stalwarts missing through travelling & illness. Ian RVJ, Exile & Tommy abc.
We were also at a bit of a loss what to start until we find out how things are going with the takeover bid.
Great turn-out from Furness College with four of them helping us out this morning including Nicola their tutor who came down to see they were ok & set them off.
As Ian RVJ wasn't there today we decided to just let the college people crack on with painting in the press box, Jordan Hoodless, Simeon Strickland, Alexander Robertson & Sophie Seddon all put their time into putting the final coat of paint on in the first part of the press box that is nearing completion (we went for a mid grey as the white made it look like some sort of shooting gallery with the reporters silhouettes in front of a white background) Some pictures will be on the next newsletter (which is running behind atm)
The three lads from a4e were ready to start anything we asked them to but as it started to [SwearFilter] it down we thought it best they stay inside the GMA instead of working on the wind damaged wall. They undercoated all the MDF panels that are now ready to be cut to size for the second half of the press box & match day control room. A great job out of the way so thanks to L. Farrish, Nikki Lavery & John McNichol for their help.
None of these lads & girls are expecting anything out of this other than to add "volunteer work" & "work experience" to their CV's but if anyone needs any labouring/groundwork done, or has use for painters learning their trade, perhaps it'd be a nice way of thanking them if someone could throw some work their way for putting in their time at our club.
As Pete Nichols was otherwise unemployed with his usual side-kick (Ian RVJ) being away I collared him to help me in general tidying up of the GMA. We put some supports under the workbench's which were starting to sag more than mrssenorita's stomach
We also sorted out the pin drill base which has never been fastened down correctly since we bought it, so that was fastened down.
Three barrow loads of rubbish were also taken to the now empty skip, Sinkfall Recycling AGAIN have to be thanked for this as they have done this for us free of charge for well over a year now, quite amazing really. Thanks also to Goodcopbadcop (Trev) for doing all the asking on our behalf.
mrssenorita & Rattle (Andy) finished off the perspexing of the players tunnel which we hope will meet all H & S requirements & will now allow people to shelter behind the X Bar wall as we have been able to move the barriers fifteen feet closer to the players tunnel. The area will still have to be respected other-wise all the work will have been for nothing & the barriers will have be moved back to where they were previously. There is a legal requirement that players & management have to be protected both on entering & leaving the pitch & this compromise has taken a fair amount of perssuasion on our part to allow us to do this after requests from supporters.
Thank you to NW Total (Engineered solutions) for supplying us with all the perspex free of charge to let us do this work.
Ste, sorry we couldn't put the canvas's up where you asked but we couldn't get access to the X Bar today, we'll try & get it done asap.
Next visit - two weeks today.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Mistake at the end of my last post.
As mrssenorita has pointed out to me - two weeks is Easter weekend so the next visit for anyone wanting to pop down will be the 27th April, the day after the final game of the season & the day we're on a corporate & players presentation later on.........thats going to be a rough old Sunday morning!!

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
With having to knock back the next Sunday morning visit till after Easter we wanted to try & get the pop side shop as close to being finished as possible so myself & mrssenorita will be doing an afternoon in there this Friday.
Tommy abc will be trying to get the wall finished & he'll be there from 1:00pm - would anyone be available to help him? it'd be passing him blocks & helping wheelbarrow the cement from the GMA to Vaughans old car park.
Or if thats a bit too much like heavy work, you could do a spot of painting in the shop then either myself or mrssenorita will drop onto the wall with Tommy.
Either a reply on here or PM will do.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Dropped some grey eggshell paint off and undercoat for progression of the press box last night.
Last friday, Andy Bundy made a template for a barrier to go on one side of the completed perspexed players tunnel. I managed to get the barrier welded and primed last night ready for fitting this friday so hopefully fans can return to that area in the not to distant future. just a coat of chelsea blue gloss required after that
When I went in the workshop, I discovered one disgruntled cement mixer owner in that it hadnt been cleaned out from the last users hence, enter the 240v jackhammer, made it hard work and lost a bit of time .Just something to think about when were all working away, tools back and a tidy makes it easier for the next visit.
Tommy abc down friday to complete the storm damaged wall he informes me so we can hang the gate back on soon. Also hes going to do the footings for the wall in the vaughans car park area. Theres a few down this friday afternoon for a couple of hours if anyone fancies it 12.30 Onwards.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Couple of jobs knocked off the to do list this afternoon.
rattle was putting one of the new barriers that him & mrssenorita have been making lately. The first one has been fastened into the terracing & the wall behind.
bennyfromormsgill popped in to measure up for some new perspex for the "Next Game" signs, he's also asked us to drop one of the signs by the Cross Bar making it easier for him to change the next weeks team sign.
I put a coat of gloss on the counter & shelving in the pop side shop. With the exeption of a few bits, this has just about finished off the work in there unless Frazer or someone else asks for any additions.
Barrow abc & Exile were working on the wall alongside Wilkie Rd, they were still on it when I left so hopefully it'll be somewhere near finished which'll allow us to re-hang the gates.
Only a quick visit but it tidied up a few loose ends.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
mrssenorita popped into the ground this morning to take some pictures of yestedays work for the newsletter and was met with a sight that was happening quite a lot last year.
Some idiots had decided that breaking into a football ground was an entertaining & worthwhile way to spend Friday night. A lot of turnstile doors were open on the pop side, all the main lights were left on in the press box along with the smaller ones, the big gates (I think he meant theses ones) at the HSE were wide open with the pieces of wood that drop in the backs to secure them thrown on the floor.
Luckily nothing appeared to be vandalised. There will be motion sensors fitted shortly in the press box & we will probably put one in on the pop side shop as well even though nothing of value is left in either.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Ian, I've got a B & D Workmate going spare - it's seen some action but is still perfectly serviceable. Any good for the GMA?
It all comes 'round again.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
There'll be a visit to the ground this coming Sunday (27th) for those who want their HS fix.
We won't bother listing all the jobs but as usual there are plenty for all ages, male or female.
We'll be opening up about 9:00am (end of season hangovers permitting)

Nothing like a little digging holes in the ground & the rumbling of a cement mixer to clear a hungover head TommyBarrowabc wrote:Fairly sure I'll have a hang-over as on corep with Ian
Last reminder for any other willing hands tomorrow morning, looking like a half decent turn-out but always more welcome.
No college people this week so a painter or two would be very helpful. You don't have to be a proper painter, if you can dip a brush in a paint pot & whack it on some wood in the first aid room - that'll do nicely.
As usual, anytime after 9:00am - turnstile C.
