If my work messed me about with my wages I'd not speak too highly of them. Would you?

Boyes struggled at Heed but was instrumental in Guiseley's rise up the leagueincluding 12 goals in the last 10 games. Decent enough impact at this level, I'd have thought. He was another one whose form and attitude dropped around the same time he was going without his pay. Funny, that.

Anyroad, i'll dip out of this thread now and leave it to the speculators.....here's to a Walker, Curtis, Morton and Banim front four next season. :D

Quite right Dave but not exactly the same situation is it?

He was more concerned in telling everyone how he was going to a bigger club in a gloating type way.
He could've said something like "thanks to Barrow & it's supporters for helping me get my career back on track, but I couldn't turn down an opportunity like this, not being paid on time was an issue as well"

But it is Cooke we're on about so I guess his radio interview just about sums him up. He did after all know that interview was going out to Barrow supporters.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Blimey Hoss, if you want to direct your ire at any of our ex players, try Boyes, who wasn't trying a leg as he'd signed pre contract and didn't want an injury  .

And there's loads more.

I can't see how folk can equate where Cook is in his development with Joe Jackson.

Until his recent rehabilitation at Guiseley, Boyes has achieved very little since leaving Barrow. On the other hand, Cook has scored a reasonable number of goals at Grimsby. Likewise, Walker has averaged a goal every 2-3 games wherever he has had an established place (Morton, Barrow, York).

We have seen with Arnison that scoring goals for Wukkie isn't necessarily an indication of success and I think that Jackson would be a bit of a gamble. We need to be looking for strikers with a decent record - at least on a par with Cook and Walker.

I also didn't rate Boyes, but the conversation was about Cook. They can both ride on as far as I am concerned.

I am with Hoss on this one. FCUM both.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Boyes does look like he has picked up after dropping down a step. Cook went to Grimsby and turned out pretty much the same as he did at Barrow but this seasons stats don't look good...

2013/2014 season
Boyes 12 apps/1 goal for Gateshead, 24 apps/15 goals for Guiseley (stats from BBC & Guiseley website).
Cook 34 apps/4 goals for Grimsby (stats from Grimsby website).

Assuming the Grimsby site is accurate, then on those stats Cook has gone down hill this season even if he is still playing at a higher level. Boyes has put in pretty much the same performance but taken a step down.

Interestingly Boyes does not look like he was given much of a chance at Gateshead. He only played one full game and was subbed off around the hour mark in his other 5 starts (including the one where he scored, he got an extra 10 minutes in the that game), half of his appearances were from the bench for 17-32mins. He bench warmed for 90 mins 7 times and was not in the Gateshead match day squad for just as many before being loaned out to Guiseley.

Who knows, we might actually sign a player or two we haven't been linked with or had play for us before...

Can't say I'm surprised although I only saw them in southern away matches. However, Boyes always looked a much better player than Cook and together with Macreth were head and shoulders above any other attacking players in the team.

At Uni in the area so it will suit him down to the ground. Will he get a run in the side.....I doubt it! But Good luck Joe, should be a good experience to carry on learning your trade.
