Totally agree, what's the harm?

All seems a bit OTT to me.
Be interested to know if it was Matthew Dodd acting on behalf of the club or just doing it off his own back in getting it removed?

That's very petty considering the club nicked a photo of mine to use as a background in the programme the first season back in the conference !

I can't bear Coldplay so didn't watch it, but that's a real shame if the club (let's hope the young lad on his own isn't that self important!) are being that silly.

Where's the harm? And I might add nobody ever asked anyone about using pictures of our displays, for media or whatever and neither should they have to.

You create something that's a "literary, dramatic, musical [or] artistic work" and put it out there, the copyright exists automatically. Putting in a copyright claim for something like this does seem a bit heavy-handed though, but it seems from what barrowfan1999 said above, the decision wasn't Matthew's.

The following link provides some guidance on fair use.

http://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyr ... _of_others

I thought the use may come under 'fair dealing', but the clips may have been too long for that. Another way round it might be to write to the club and ask for permission to use the material (para. 4, fourth bullet), and see if they'll take back the claim on YouTube

BTW, I think Coldplay are dogger too, but I rather liked the song on that video. OMG! What's happening to me!!!? ;)

Considering I actually know Matthew (Dodd) and speak to him quite regularly I think everyone should just cut him some slack. He does put a lot of effort into making the videos for the club by editing the footage and so on. There is only copyright on the video because he's acting on behalf of the club, not himself and he isn't some kind of stuck up knob who is jealous or anything along those lines of Phil's work. To be fair, Phil's footage/videos are good, but there is no reason to start giving the lad abuse.

I know, I thought that he'd just removed it to be nasty and I didn't know that he worked for Barrow AFC, but it's not his fault he had to take it down if he had to.

The person who actually made the original decision has just made themselves look a bit daft really, it's the small things that people get wrong that can sometimes cause the most harm.

A massive over reaction to a young lad creating something for supporters to watch.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Can understand someone who must put a massive amount of time into creating someting wanting to protect their intellectual property rights.

Wonder what's changed though? Guess we need to remember we are now in a different, commercial environment.

Maybe Phil and Matthew could work together on so projects supporting and promoting the club - In my mind these feel good videos really help promote the club - the bigger the build up to the new season the better

Correct. It was only this time last year Stu Nichols was getting an earful from the previous board for suggesting we might finish midtable in the forthcoming season (bang on as it turned out) as that was downplaying the club and making people not want to come apparently...

The young lads video did no harm atall, ridiculous reaction to get it removed IMO. Was this the clubs decision or a young directors son getting a bit too big for his boots and jumping the gun?

Club decision everyone. Not Matthews choice or fault.

Exactly Freya, not to mention the folk who painted the banner, or the lad who thought it up, who didn't actually paint it, I mean, this is how silly it can get :D I totally get going after knock off T-Shirts, kits and the like, but honestly..

I'm glad to hear it's not the young lad off his own bat though, so lets not overreact to the overreaction ;)
