Club Captain.

Post by spirit of 1990 » Thu Jul 31, 2014 12:38 pm

Just reading the article about who could be the new captain with Jase, Simon Grand, Danny Livesey & Tony McMillan all in contention.
Jase would be popular amongst fans I think but I always like a captian to come from defence or midfield, as a forward or keeper I always feel as though they're not in the best position to get around players.

Danny or Simon for me with Danny getting the nod just for the simple fact that he's captained other promotion winning teams.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Simon Grand - it's a no brainer for me. Captained Telford to the league title last year, not sure if he did the same with Southport? Looks a natural leader on the pitch, very vocal and a cracking player.

+1

Even just on Tuesday at Lancaster he was the stand out option, barking orders and encouragement throughout, aswell as being a fantastic player.

Simon was Rochdales youngest captain when he was 19.

Simon Grand first choice for me. If he's not playing, Livesey.

Grandy would be my choice too.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Which teams has Danny Livesey captained to promotion Ian?

Is club captain different to team captain?!? Caus I know some clubs have different... I'd have jason walker as club captain but simon grand anyday? Is McMillan is a candidate does that mean he's number 1?

Bugger, [SwearFilter] & double [SwearFilter].....my mistake, I was in a rush to get to an appointment so never re-read my post. I did mean Simon Grand, he'd be my first choice captain.

Schoolboy error, my topic & I made the mistake in my OP

They're usually the same thing, just when for example the appointed captain isn't getting in the team, someone else is the team captain. Usually only different when the club captain has been there for years, been captain for years, and I guess the boss doesn't have the heart to strip him of the title. Wouldn't really be any point in it at Barrow, because having someone as just a club captain is a pretty meaningless gesture really.

Oh, and I'd pick Grand without a second's hesitation. Captain from day one of pre-season.
