Wilson or Walker?

Post by mickycarrol » Sun Aug 17, 2014 8:32 am

Great dilemma for the managers to have but Cook is a defo the way he has started the season, alongside him I would put Wilson next match. I think he looks a great player strong direct powerful with an eye for goal, Jason looks slightly off the pace at the moment. So for me it's a Cook - Wilson front two against Harrogate. Ellison took his goal really well I might add.

Shouldn't really be a difficult decision. Walker hasn't scored yet this season. Wilson has scored twice in ~30 minutes. Him and Cook will be a nightmare for any defence in this league.

Don't think we should be making judgements too quickly, its only been three games. But at the moment, I'd have Wilson and Cook up front.

I was never attacking you, clearly you are simply making a judgement on the players performances after three games when the team still needs to gel, 'jog on'

I can only go by commentary, but Jason seems to have been unlucky with possibly two 'offside' goals chalked off. If Wilson starts, he may not be as effective as when he comes on as sub. I expect both of them, and Ellison, will get a fair crack of the whip and possibly end up with a roughly equal number of starts. It's a team game and it doesn't matter who gets the goals as long as we win.

I would stick with Walker for the next game if he is fit, give him a chance to get a confidence boosting goal, then rest him next Monday.

Clearly u don't understand how football works, it's all about judgements and selection at all times, Walker hasn't started as well as Wilson therefore I think Wilson deserves a starting position that's all I was trying to get across. Dear me didn't think it was that difficult really...........

I think it's great that we have these selection problems.
On current form cook and Wilson start then Ellison then walker.

The team still needs to gel. Some players take longer than others to perform to their potential. Of course, Wilson now deserves a start, I misunderstood your post thinking that you meant for the entire season.

Four good strikers :D Jason Walker has worked very hard and has been unlucky in recent games and Ellison I thought was superb when he came on but on current form in a two it has to be Wilson and Cook- what a nightmare for defenders!! :D :D :D :D

Think Wilson needs to start a game now then we will see if he is better coming on as an impact player or not. Could be interesting for Walker - he might come on after 70min & then scores a couple of goals. Great problem for us - & we've not even mentioned the impact Ellison could have as well

Gotta be Wilson for me, looks to be a great prospect from what we've seen of him, and you can't argue with 2 goals in about half an hour of football. As a defender or opposition fan if I saw Wilson and Cook lining up against me it'd scare the shit out of me. Think Jase has worked hard and been unlucky in parts, but for the here and now Wilson will be the more dangerous prospect vs Harrogate, be plenty of game time for all our strikers I'm sure.

And then there's Ellison to remember, how well did he take his goal! Not to mention that touch down the wing in front of the main stand, ball looked to be well passed him, yet the quality he had to bring it under was superb; again looks to be a good prospect and shows the depth we have there, can make changes and bring on fresh legs without weakening the side atall.

The bolded bit is the most important point made so far and I would start with Wilson and Cook v Harrogate for that very reason. Remember though that we have a game on Saturday and Monday coming up so I think all four of our strikers have an important part to play this coming weekend. Having Ellison and Walker to come off the bench for the last 20-25 minutes is a massive weapon in itself

Difficult to get into an argument over this one. We have an embarrassment of riches. And I agree I think we need to include Ellison in this discussion. Every time I've seen him he looks very sharp and changed the tempo of the game in the last few minutes against Boston.

I guess Edmo just needs to tell them how much he needs and appreciates them and that they are going to have to work as a group. He can either rotate them during the game or from match to match, or both. There really is no need for discontent among them - as long as they are getting paid!

Having said that both Wilson and Ellison have made real impacts as subs - as you might expect them to have. The question is whether our attack would carry the same degree of potency if for example AC and JW were to come off the bench with 20 to go. Both the games against Gainsborough and Hyde were settled late on by fresh legs against tiring defences trying to park the bus. However when this team really gels, we shouldn't be expecting to have to win many games in the last 10 minutes.

Jason's role has also changed a little since he was last here as our one and only quality striker and therefore the outlet for every attacking play we used to make. He wont score as many for that reason. I sense a little of the Wazza in Jason these days and he'll be as important in his assists as well as the goals he scores.

I guess we wont know until we tinker. So I'd be tempted to play Wilson with Cook from the start at Harrogate and see.
