Re: EDMO/CARLISLE
Perfectly normal. My guess would be that he probably won't be offered the job but if he was he'd take it. However, in spite of the good job he's obviously done since he's been here, I'd be pretty relaxed if the worst were to happen because even at this level of football money talks and with Paul Casson's backing Barrow would have to have a truly dire manager not to be challenging in this league. You've only got to look from Chelsea down to Fleetwood to see what happens if a club has more money than others at the same level!Kieran wrote:No one is acting as though he's gone, people are just discussing the possibility based on the fact that he's bookies favourite. All perfectly normal.
Calm down.

Sounds familiar.A.B. wrote:Edmo just confirmed on BBCRC that he won't be applying for the job.
There's no point worrying about it. Que sera sera and all that.
Re: EDMO/CARLISLE
What else was said, A.B.? The above could of course be the forked tongue once so beloved of all white men (according to respectable Red Indians) but nowadays more readily recognisable as commonplace footballese. Okay, he said he won’t be applying but did he say what his response would be to an approach, if made to him?A.B. wrote:Edmo just confirmed on BBCRC that he won't be applying for the job.
During the war, no, scrap that, that was Uncle Albert.
During the early 1970’s (1974 I think it was) Carlisle United achieved the impossible and, after a 3-2 away win at Everton, were briefly top of the whole pile in English League football. Now if Darren (or anybody) thought that the structure was currently in place at Carlisle to repeat that achievement then I would have to give my understanding as to why they might want to make the move. But of course that is not going to happen.
In the current situation I think Edmo would have to be foolish and short-sighted to even consider it; it would be a blind, short-termist perspective to merely consider managing here and now at two levels higher, even though it would be in the Football League. Longer term, as mentioned by others, Darren has a dream ticket at Barrow with a “project” (don’t like that word, but more modern day footballese) to die for. At the end of his career Darren could muse on the fact that he tootled about in the bottom two divisions with Carlisle, which is what they have done for much of their history (in other words more of the same followed by more of the same) or he could strive to fulfil the PC legacy and be written forever into football folklore as the man who raised former Football League club Barrow from the dead (and took them back into said Football League). Which story would read better as a eulogy at Darren’s funeral? Apart from achievement there is of course the matter of remuneration but I hardly think PC is employing him on a pittance that leaves his mortgage in arrears so perhaps prospective achievement has to be the main consideration here. And that lies definitely with being manager of Barrow. Any manager, whether Darren or whoever, choosing to throw away the opportunity being presented by PC would warrant being called a fool to their face.

Re: EDMO/CARLISLE
In fairness he didn't actually apply for the Barrow job either did he?A.B. wrote:Edmo just confirmed on BBCRC that he won't be applying for the job.
Re: EDMO/CARLISLE
It was just what BBCRC tweeted before, so not sure what else was said. Correct Ste, I'm not saying that he's 100% committed to staying to Barrow now. I can't blame him if he goes, it could well be the best opportunity he gets of managing Carlisle, a club strong in his heart.

My man in Carlisle assures me that they will be looking for experience and an older head. He doubts Edmo would be in the running. Just his opinion of course but hes been a season ticket holder for many years.

There won't be an official response from the club, as there is nothing to respond too, if that makes sense.bigcod123 wrote:ok lets get a official response from the club....up to now nothing. while there is nothing there is always a possibilty....edmo has said he will not apply but if he was asked? lets get this sorted! Fans speculating on a forum is great, and how good is it that our Gaffer is linked to these so called bigger jobs! Sign that were doing something right!

That's good news, and will mean we won't need to play Stay Just A Little Bit Longer by Jackson Browne over the tannoy at HS on Saturday then?
