The radio times used to include a plan of a sports pitch divided into rectangles 1-8 so when listening to the sports commentary the map would help the listener visualise where the ball was. "Back to square one" would indicate that the ball had come back into the area closest to the keeper at that end. This was way back- pre 1930's .The phrase has been linked to that amongst other things.

Me & mrsenario spent half an hour setting up the trust table in preperation for the mad rush tomorrow off all you people waiting to become BST members and we saw the transformation of the X Bar first hand.
Even though not finished, it's looking fantastic, bottom third of the walls all painted ready for the wallpaper on the top two thirds, new lighting, ceiling skimmed, other walls skimmed, plugs & sockets for the new TV's, Suzanne & the new girl stocking the bar, Steve Patten looking like Brian May on that Queen video with his hoover (not in the wig & womens clothing though) & workers finishing bits off.

Great times.

Not really anything to do with me but it's the same faces in bar nearly every week as far as I can tell.
Wouldn't you be better off in the ground. I spoke with an old friend of my dad's the other week.
Stood in samee place as I last saw him about 20 years ago.
I asked if he was going for a pint and he said he had never been in there. Walks up Holker Street then through pop side turnstile goes down about 4 steps watches match turns round and goes home again.
Must be loads like him.

The bar's a bit compared to many. I hate the bar itself at Fleetwood, but I loved the concept of it being just under the stand. Two or three of those dotter around selling food and beer, out of sight of the football so people can nip in and out, with a tv or two showing the game... Significantly better than a walk to the Crossbar at half time (which is hard to do in 15 mins, with the walk there & back), or queueing for a burger in the rain, or both.

It's also several years away, so for now a refurbished (& possibly renamed) Crossbar is better than an unrefurbished one.

I honestly think now everything is coming into place
that most will be like I was/am 'wow' there's nothing like it
in this town I'm blown away by it and credit has to go to Thelma
who's designed it all just simply stunning. I doubt there's a better bar in Cumbria

Best all come suitably dressed then. No scruffy attire on Saturday. I think my legs are making an appearance--the 2nd time this year.

Just popped in there at dinner time (and got roped into moving chairs & tables around) but the place is bright, classy & a million miles from what it was two weeks ago. New tables, tinted strips going on the windows late this afternoon, new curtains, new carpet, new chairs (although some of the older chairs & tables have had to come back out for now, unless they change their minds before tomorrow) Nice mix of John Duffin pictures & framed football shirts on the freshly decorated & painted walls.

Top effort in just two weeks by the people involved.

Oh, Meeks & Tommy nine toes dusting tables together........I think it's love!
