Barrow AFC v Lowestoft Town - Match Thread
Re: Barrow AFC v Lowestoft Town - Match Thread
Thought it was a tense and nervy display today. Thought we were solid enough at the back bar one or two slip ups. McW looks a little off the pace still, hopefully with a few more games he'll get back to where he was earlier in the year.
We were guilty of rushing the pass a bit today at times, need a little more composure, perhaps that win will settle folk down a bit.
A victory by endeavour today rather than craft, if we can stick roughly with this starting 11 we'll see a more consistent Barrow. Please give the lads chance to gel Darren!!!
JW seemed to be getting a bit of stick by some today, thought his work rate was excellent and numerous times the ball just didn't fall for him today. Good to see him on the score sheet - be happy for him to have a quiet start and start banging them in after Xmas on the run in.
Both new lads look useful, but hard to really tell on 20 min or less.

It's hard playing a team who from the first minute were happy to kick the ball into the corner to try and waste time; we got sucked into that though and hoofed long ball after long ball forwards in the hope Cooky would flick them on, which he did a few times and neither wide man had gone past him anticipating the flick. Central midfield is still a worry, not creative enough to break teams down. Both full backs were poor, in games like that you need them going past the winger and giving us another option to create something........and Burnsy needs to practice throw ins

Can't remember much due to wine in corporate but 3 points will do for me.

That's harsh! I suspect it's just the way you have worded this that is misleading! I accept that Burns, going forward, is a willing if less than accomplished attacking force (unlike the recently deceased Mick Richmond who was a fantastic attacking full-back and for whom there has been no tribute other than on this forum - - - yes, that's a dig there). However the use of that word "poor" is misleading because, though lacking somewhat going forward, Burns was (as always) magnificent in his defensive capacity yesterday.HenneysKnee wrote:Both full backs were poor, in games like that you need them going past the winger and giving us another option to create something
I accept that on the other side of the pitch McWilliams needs time to get to full speed after his lay-off but obviously needs to show more than he's shown these last two games.
I can still see a place for Cowps in midfield . . . . . .

Just watched the highlights, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFoJpMV ... WYTmFzP0wA. Sam Sheridan worked his magic yesterday and both goals came through his playmaking skills, some cracking balls played into Cook Owens, the pass to Cook for the Owens winner was special!
Also Johnny Gorman looked confident on the ball, I liked the way after he was awarded the free kick after a foul he was the first one to take hold of the ball claiming he earned it and he was certainly taking it. Nearly squeezed it underneath the jumping wall the lad as well!
Hopefully the team that started yesterday will all start the game at Bradford P A next week a bit of continuity and a settled side so to speak.

Older supporters might remember Kenny Lowe pulling the strings in midfield - he was the most gifted player I have ever seen in non-league football. He had a guy called Kevin Proctor protecting him and doing the dirty , er, I mean firm but fair stuff in there. We need to replicate those two somehow - it's as simple as that.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Kenny Lowe has got to be the best midfielder Barrow have ever had as a non-league team which, of course, is why he got as far as Birmingham City's first team for a time.Wintergreen wrote:Older supporters might remember Kenny Lowe pulling the strings in midfield - he was the most gifted player I have ever seen in non-league football.
