Not necessarily so. I doubt if any will receive custordial sentences. (Unless they have similar previous convictions).

I've just read the article in the Tamworth newspaper - all - apart from one who pleaded not guilty, declined to make a plea in the Magistrates Court. If they ALL decide to plead NOT GUILTY in Crown Court their cases will be heard by a Jury. To make a plea of NOT Guilty in a Crown Court is very rare UNLESS the defendents believe they have a good chance of winning their cases.

Also; it may not be resolved on June 20 - the defendents may simply make their plea on that date. Which means another date could will be set for sentencing.

With the hearing being held in a Crown Court - if a plea of NOT GUILTY is made - I think I'm right in saying that the CPS have the right to approach witnesses (Barrow AFC fans)to request their presence in Court...

Has anyone else received a letter today regarding attending the court proceedings against those who have been charged with violent disorder?
Mine says there will be three trials and and could take between 5 days and 4 weeks but I will not be required to attend all of them.
After the length of time it has taken to get them to court I can't recall clearly everything that happened now.
Still no definite date when the proceedings will take place. I have sent them an e-mail saying I am 73 and can't even remember last week never mind what happened earlier in the year.

If you have already given a statement then in all likelihood you will only be asked to confirm your statement is true, if your asked at all. I wasn't there so I'm not involved at all this but as a victim/witness you should have been given a contact, you could talk to them if your unsure of yourself. There are often people at the court itself who can help or advise if your worried about anything. You probably know some of this already.

I hope they get what they deserve.

As soon as I arrived the police detective I had dealt with asked me if I wanted to look at my witness statement, and was quite happy to run through it with me; it was a few months since I had given the statement, which in any case had been a three to four weeks after the alleged crime.

In the event, I didn't need to give evidence, as the scrotes changed their pleas to guilty. According to the police, this is not unusual. They initially plead not guilty, hoping that the witnesses fail to turn up, then change their pleas at the last minute hoping for a lesser sentence. Personally, I'd double it in these circumstances for wasting the court's time - and mine.

My experience as well. I turned up with them still pleading innocent, wait around for a few hours only for them to change their plea as they know your going to back up the evidence. Go home without even seeing the inside of the courtroom or the defendant. Court staff told me it happens a lot and witnesses turning up are vital for the system to work.

Yeah my initial reaction was to panic really as I hadn't had any indication that I would be called as a witness whilst others had, but the more I think, in particular, about those cowards hitting an elderly man leaving the toilets totally unaware of what was going on makes my blood boil. Using a walking stick and having difficulty breathing made him an easy target.
I guess that's me signed up then.
