Bring back ballboys

Nige, of course I was egging the joke and over-elaborating it, and of course it should be kids doing the job, but it did occur to me that there was a serious side to this - - - if there were ongoing reasons why kids were being prevented doing this job then would it be better to have:

Absolutely nobody retrieving the balls, OR - - - - -
Fit adults, perhaps in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s who can get the ball back quickly

Do you seriously think “nobody” is the better option? I realise it’s unusual and requires a bit of “outside the box” thinking and that it breaks a sports-stereotype as regards ball-retrievers, but then again I’ve always believed in smashing down the walls of stereotypes, especially if it serves a useful purpose. That’s why I think "somebody" rather than "nobody" would be an answer.

If the u18 coaches are CRB cleared then the simple, best and most beneficial solution is to have the youth team players doing this job! It fixes the problem. But it is also a healthy way of integrating the youth players into match day routines at the club. Look at it more from a player development point rather than a "we are a big club why don't we have ballboy's"

This is something the club at looking at,but we don't want to go into until we've absolutely nailed down that we have the resources to do it properly.

surely we can! if this happens we have to make sure they have water-proof gear etc because in winter we know how horrendous and unforgiving the weather sometimes can be!.

the last time we had them i remember they had no gear etc and they looked pretty miserable, perhaps they could form a guard of honour for the team i.e. make them feel a part of the action and i`m sure we would get plenty of kids (sorry pjdaly!) to buy into this.

No it's another we are looking at it but hoping everyone forgets about it type thing.

Many sides will come here to waste time this season and today it stopped our momentum and could have cost us several extra minutes when we could've had opportunities to score late on. Harrogate were masters of doing this today so lets not give the opposition a chance to do this and get the ball back in asap. It was a joke the amount of time their keeper wasted walking to get the ball and then walking back to the 6 yard box because there was nobody there to throw it back.

Youth teams should be involved and their respective coaches could manage organisation on the day. The reward- meet the first team, autographs etc. Team photo on the pitch. etc. Surely this should be part of the wider Barrow set up. It could be rotated around each of the youth teams so they all get involved.

Basically we wont have ball boys/girls this season according to those in the know.

It cost us today and will definately cost when Ferriby rock up here.

The Manager must be frustrated at losing vital game time and no amount of fan screaming from the touchline is going to speed up an opposition player when they are 1 up and burning down the clock.

Dreadful time wasting yesterday from them. Ball boys would have helped this situation. Very frustrating for crowd when the ball rolls down pop side wall 80 yards away and nobody goes for it. Says something when ARH was acting as ball boy. Maybe that's why he won MOM.

Yesterday Highlighted my original post so much,the time wasting in the second half was ridiculous,but was helped massively by the lack of ball boys.
