Our U18 LFA Floodlit squad welcome Myerscough College Greens to Holker Street tomorrow (26th Feb), 7.30pm kick off, £2 Adults and U16's free. They follow this up with another home fixture on Monday (2nd March) against Myerscough College Reds, also a 7.30pm kick off, £2 Adults and U16's free.

The U18 NWYA squad play their final home league fixture of the season on Sunday 8th March, 2.00pm against Warrington Town.

Just a quick question.

What are the aims of these junior teams?

Is there a genuine progression path to the first team or do they only go around playing colleges and such like?.

Bar Mikey Thompson I don't know if Ive seen any make proper first team appearances.

I went to watch the Under 18's on Sunday, no disrespect at all but I'd be suprised if any of those ever play for the first team

From what i've seen this season, no matter how well you may have played in the past once you reach 18 and its your last season with them then you get selected less and less, the odd start a few games on the bench and then dropped, that seems to be the pattern this season.
Your place is then taken by a player from the U17's & U16's as they are brought on, no doubt they end facing the same fate once they hit 18!

As for Mikey hes been played out of position in most games not had a good season and has missed the last 2 U18 games, once with injury and once dropped to give the younger players a run out. I doubt he will feature much in the last 3 games, bit sad as he seemed to have a bit of potential.
Nathan has been training with the first team recently but thats about it as far as bringing them on, my thinking is if the league is wrapped up before the season end he might just get a run out, if it goes to the last game i doubt you'll see him play.

Is this game still on?

I think the idea to bring the younger ones through is good, we need to remember this venture is still in the early days so even getting a few young local lads knocking on the door to train/play first team is a good thing. TheRe won't be players that come through every year, it isn't the class of 92, but one every now and then makes it worthwhile IMO.

Under 18s down as having a home game against Padiham tonight in the LFA 20:00 kick off. Can anyone confirm that its on!

Got beat 0-4, not really in it at any stage tonight. The score was 0-2 at halftime and Padiham were in complete control! Second half Danny Doherty beat the keeper only to hit the post and that was our only chance to score! Att; 30
