Would go along with the sentiment that Stockport were as bad as any side to visit. Some of their play was shockingly bad.
We weren't great, though Howarth deserved his Man of the Match because he changed everything.

Those saying Taylor doesn't instill confidence - MacMillan was all over the show. Nearly got caught out a couple of times. Should be dropped as soon as Taylor's fit again.

Some poor performances from some Barrow players, and definitely a clear out on the cards if we go up. Still, a reasonably enjoyable afternoon.

A tad harsh on Tony Mac there. His save to keep us at 1-0 could turn out to be as important as any goal scored at the other end. This after having very little to do other than sweep up until that point.

It's a valid point by Moribund, McMillan should stop "entertaining" us by dribbling opponents before clearing. However, it's very harsh to say he should be dropped again as soon as Taylor is fit again.

Moonwatcher, you certainly bring the debate over Tony's contribution back to deuce with a telling ace; you are so right in saying that his tremendous save in keeping the scoreline to 1-0 was every bit as important as the coruscating strike that duly won us the match. Our defence, which had been solid to that point (albeit against a weak opposition strikeforce), suddenly parted like the Red Sea giving Stockport a glaring chance to equalise and it was truly some stop by our keeper to maintain our advantage. If that had gone in and it had ended 1-1 we would have been dejected and down the coast Fylde would have set alight; even DLR (whom the Fylde manager should know is the very OED definition of "lazy", and not Andy Cook as he has suggested) would have opened his bone-idle eyes at a 1-1 scoreline. So, good comment Moonwatcher, that save was critical and all praise to Tony Mc for that moment of baseline brilliance.

It's all down to when Sale RU played there. It seems the football team sold out to the rugby team and now pay rent for the use of the ground.

agree- Thought he did very well and got into the game very quickly. He may not score the wonder goals these days but he is a very important player for us.

Easy to point a finger at those not so well off. If we had half the money Stockport have wasted over their dramatic fall down the leagues, Holker St would be quite different. All you can say to these fans of recent ex-league sides that criticise our ground is welcome to non-league your one of of us now, why don't you stay a while and see what your ground looks like in 40+ years if your club is still around. Barrow were kicked out at a time when it was nigh on impossible to get back in with no automatic promotion.

No TV or league money or national press interest = no major ground improvements or interest full stop = run down ground showing it's age.

Despite a brief flutter with ground improvements in the late 90's backed by the fans with the "raise the roof" fund used on the Wilke Stand roof. Other improvements including the main stand (on borrowed money) and popular side crush barriers (not paid for) which led to the clubs demise in 1999. Then chairman SV tried to run off with the deeds to the ground and then destroyed Chester City with a similar ill-conceived plan, minus control of the ground. Most ground improvements have been one of knocking down old or unsafe structures around the ground. The club has done well in this time to preserve the iconic floodlight pylons which are soon to be renovated and upgraded as a first step in ground improvements. Even if it is more by accident or lack of money to replace them.

It is possible we won't recognise Holker St. in a number of years with what is planned/ in planning.

Most Stockport fans do seem to have woken up to their own predicament and have stopped laughing at those around them. They are more likely to be kicked out of Edgeley Park than see it become run down over the years so they will be spared that but will have other problems to deal with. Wish them all the best and hope they eventually return to the league some day soon, non-league will be poorer for the loss but would not begrudge them such a success.

A vital win from an inelegant but highly committed performance.

Within moments of kick off, Alex Ray Harvey typified the day's spirit with two thunderous tackles in rapid succession. In the second half, Sam Sheridan showed tremendous drive to make a vital covering challenge as last man as Stockport broke threateningly. Danny Livesey and Simon Grand were dominant and reassuring, positionally excellent. Livesey seemed more vocal than of late and made a crucial clearance on the stretch to follow up McMillan's one on one stop. The highlight, perhaps, was Andy Burns' clear forwards at all costs mentality. Flat on his front after a challenge short of halfway, and with the ball in front of him, Burns, without any fear of meeting a stray boot, slithered himself forward to roll a headed clearance a precious 2 yards further up field.

Full of endeavour then, it was final third quality, on and off the ball, that we lacked. Cook and Wilson, while lacking finesse, pushed and pulled a harassed Stockport back line so that it was bound to eventually weaken. It took Andy Haworth's quality to make the difference. His upright directness from the bench has been influential. A stunning arrowed strike. Gloves in April with a short sleeved shirt may raise eyebrows but who ever complains of cold forearms?

Stockport's struggles, with continued superb gates and wide catchment area, continue to surprise. One of the poorest sides at Holker St this season. Little width, they lacked threat besides the persistence of Dennis up front.

The referee was excellent. Unfussy and decisive.

Another step made. Getting closer. We need to match yesterday's work rate through the final 5 games.

He was stretching for a ball with no contact from anyone, looks to me a layman his knee has gone again and we wont see him again this season.
