Why don't we just donate the fee back to St Mary's
Just my opinion

St Marys would not be doing this if they weren't happy with it and I'm sure they will get more than 8000 back.

I can't help but think what £8500 could pay for in The Hospice.

Every pound that is donated to the hospice is split as follows:

75p direct to beneficiaires.
23p invested to generate future income.
2p on support costs.

For further information on their spending etc see the following link:

http://apps.charitycommission.gov.uk/Sh ... ryNumber=0

Clearly the Hospice feel that paying £8,500 will allow them to appeal to a much wider audience and generate more income.

It seems that both parties are happy with the deal and I think we should praise the club for entering into a partnership with the Hospice.

I have read the article and agree with the view 'why are we taking money off a charity?' The reasons given don't seem to stack up.

Charities are run as a business and need to secure as big a share of diminishing public donations as they can and I'm sure the Hospice couldn't get better vfm for the 8.5k they just spent in terms of exposure etc. I imagine it was some kind of cost only / no profit deal as far as BAFC was concerned. Perhaps the NWEM didn't need to publish the 8500 detail or sold it as a not for profit deal. Its certainly tainted an otherwise excellent gesture in some peoples eyes.

Lets just see it for what it is, more exposure and hopefully donations for a very worthwhile charity.

Just a response to the 'cancer hospice' references: St Mary's offer care and support to adults facing the end of their lives and support to their families, regardless of diagnosis.

They do tremendous work.

Worth a read.

I couldn't give two shits if the Hospice is "happy" with it - taking money off a charity and calling it a "Community partnership" is unacceptable. It's a sponsorship, plain and simple. The fact we've apparently chosen to do some small extra "partnership" stuff on top of that is really unrelated, and is the least we should be doing for local charities anyway.

If we want to give them benefits of a partnership from the club we should do so for free. If we can't afford to forego a shirt sponsorship, we should continue the partnership stuff and give them a few advertising boardings around the ground instead. Name a stand after them, make Jason Walker change his name by deed poll, whatever - but don't take money off them. Even if it was vital for the club to get £8.5k for the shirt sponsorship, we could do that with someone else and give the Hospice the other benefits and an absolute crapton of other free publicity.

Either do it for free, or if we can't afford to then do as much as we can, but don't do this.

Maybe the Hospice couldn't get better value for money from £8.5k... but they'd sure as hell get better value for money if we didn't charge them at all. And it barely even feels like we've offered them anything as it is! The only way I could consider this being acceptable is if they were getting some kind of regular kickback from us, or if it was actually a private individual sponsoring on their behalf, wanting to donate to the club but also donating the shirt space to the hospice at the same time.

Sorry, I'm not buying it: however we try to wrap it up and gloss it as a "partnership", this is shameful. And for us to do it when, for the first time in recently history, we aren't scrabbling down the back of the sofa for 20p's?

Their name on the shirt, an awareness day and a couple of bucket collections in exchange for taking £8.5k off a Hospice for the terminally ill? That's just [SwearFilter] embarrassing and we as a club ought to be utterly ashamed of ourselves today.

Now that's enough of a rant, I'm off to rob my Nan's life savings. It's okay, though, because I've just got her name tattoo'd across my chest.

Before anyone jumps down my throat I'm not saying its right!!

However the fact is the charity will spend the 8.5k in any event and probably not get much at all for it ie some advertising. I reckon if they spend it on advertising on Barrow AFc shirts etc they will get a much bigger return on their investment. Perhaps the club will be donating in any event.

Yes I understand people being upset but take a deep breath and think about it first
