No point in releasing players too early if we can't replace with better, I imagine there will be a few waves of ins and outs as targets are identified and signed. Sounds like they had a lot of ideas in place in the event of our promotion. Interesting times ahead.

memories of 67 wrote:Happy with the 5 released, I would also release the players that weren't regularly in the starting eleven in conference north as they wouldn't get a sniff in the National league.
So that would be McWilliams, Guy, Gorman & Reid. I would also include Ledsham in the released list.
Burns, A-R-H & Cowps, Walker would be good squad players.
Sums it up pretty well for me!

A winger with pace and a trick Will and does leave burnsy standing he's all heart but we need quality 1 to 11 plus the subs not lads who might be good enough in a year or twos time , that's what a resurve team is for , two full backs 2 central mids are a massive must with a top gk then we Will be a team to fear ..

Burns is a weak spot. A fast or strong winger just pulls him apart.

Chuck him

That last comment is disrespectful to a player who has given his all for the past two seasons.

We all know there's no sentiment in football or any kind of business but I recall Andy Burns signing as soon as the season ended last year stating it isn't about the money for him, he just loves playing for this club. No waiting to see if PC took over and whether there would be more money on offer.
The images of his kamikaze headers for the ball in a few games this season will stay long in the memory--cuts, lumps and all.

Rumour on the Southport forum that we've been looking at a couple of their out-of-contract players. Poster hoped it wasn't young full-back Luke George or experienced centre-back Mark Foster. Personally I hope its not Ruthers (that ships sailed), Almond (talent but keeps it well hidden) or Brodie (too much baggage and would sulk if not first choice).

Regarding Cowps...I see him as a great utility player who we can throw into the breach for several positions. I hope he has a long career here with us.

No disrespect to Southport but I'd hope we will aim higher for players if we are to get back to the football league. Rumour is we've got a player who's agreed terms who will shock supporters that we've signed him.

Probably the right set to release: they'll likely do better (financially and in terms of game time) being released now and finding themselves places in the top Conf North teams for next season. I doubt any of them will struggle to find employment, and tbh I suspect they're probably not overly concerned about being released

I'm not saying Southport don't have world class players (as shown by your example) but we need to be making marquee signings.

Omar Bogle has to be on the list surely. Already a legend and he hasn't kicked a ball for us yet---well officially (pen).
