Re: Furness Select Updates
I wasn't there.
Yes it is pre season and we supposedly avoided injuries. But if you compare the sides should we really be losing that match though?
Well done to Furness Select though, sounds like they had an excellent game.
My comments about inevitable relegation and half time booing were tongue in cheek.

Cooky is [SwearFilter] enormous. No way should a professional footballer turn up looking like that! Everyone can expect to lose sharpness and fitness but the guy looks like he has been binge feeding lard sandwiches!
Mama looked good though. So did Mellor until he got crocked. Joel made one good stop but wasn't tested otherwise.

Only the four trialists mentioned, the rest were made up of who resigned from last year.

@steveshawNWEM: #BarrowAFC: Taylor, Cowperthwaite, McWilliams, L Dawson, Parslow, Grand, Haworth, Harvey, Walker, Guy, A Dawson.
Thats the starting 11. Shouldnt really be one nil down at half time that.
@steveshawNWEM: #BarrowAFC subs: Ashton, Young, Cook, Pilkington, Mellor, Fofana, Dixon.

Dan Parslow is ex-York captain. I would have him here in a heartbeat.

In the second half cooky went from centre forward to right wing when the burgers were reduced to £1 near the touch line.I was surprised at his size but come the big kick off he will be like a gazelle.

Re: Furness Select Updates
Decent early pre-season workout. A game of 2 halves. Only 3 of our players played the full 90 mins (Grand, Haworth & Parslow?) - all others only played 45...1st half Furness Select were the best team & deserved their half time lead. Our IX looked disjointed - Walker was anonymous. Guy made some good runs but wasn't composed with his finishing. McWilliams was hesitant at times...2nd half the AFC IX got their passing game going & dominated possession. Fofana, Ashton, Alex Newby & Haworth especially impressed. Cook would have equalised with a powerful back post header from an Ashton cross from the left if it hasn't been for a high quality save from Danny Eccles (local lad released by Carlisle & now training with Barrow).
Only 1 week into pre-season training so best not to over-analyse what was really just a decent training session.
Great effort by Tony Callister etc coaching the Furness Select team - they passed the ball well & came up with a couple of clinical finishes 1st first half, then kept their shape & pressed well 2nd half to hold on for the victory.
