Sorry to hear about this. Fred was a legend at Holker Street, probably one of, if not the, best goalkeeper to play for Barrow.

Sympathies with Fred's family.

Very sad news - I never saw Fred play but I understand he was one of the best ever goalkeepers to play for the club - he settled down in the area when he finished playing which is a compliment to the people of the town RIP

Terrific keeper and a real gentleman.

Always had time to chat to BGS pupils on way home from school as they passed his house when he was in his garden.

May he rest in peace!

Without question, a Barrow great. It was a pleasure to have been able to watch him. R.I.P.

A legend, member of our promotion winning side 1966-67, one of the best signings we ever made. He made goalkeeping look easy, rarely spectacular but almost always in the right position and in command of his area.

I hope the club will mark his passing at a time when we have a good crowd - perhaps first game of the season?

Best 'keeper I have ever seen in a Barrow shirt, without doubt. Old school, well-mannered, thoroughly decent bloke and as stated above, always had time for you. Sympathy to his loved ones. Let's hope the Club will mark his passing in a suitable and fitting manner. A Holker Street icon.

Yes, he was a good 'keeper and a true Gentleman. I was invited, by his son, since he remembered that I was an ex-Barrovian, to meet Fred at his 78th birthday celebration at Forest Green Rovers hospitality suite. His Grandson, Jon was playing for us at the time, so Fred came along with his family to watch the game. Alas, his son also passed away a couple of years later.

Condolences to the remaining family.

My Dad always spoke well of Fred Else, I met him a couple of times and he seemed a very decent bloke. RIP Fred and condolences to the family.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

A proper legend of our club - what a keeper he was and more importantly, what a gentleman.

A sad day down at Holker Street. Condolences to the Else family and friends.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
