Dear All,

As you'll remember I was on here last Friday talking to everyone about the Pre Season Event and the price of tickets. We were really concerned that fans didn't seem to be buying tickets and you told us the price was too high. In my simplistic way we then dropped the price. This meaning that St Mary's wouldn't make a profit but we would break even.

However the Club was really worried that this meant St Mary's wouldn't benefit as much as we'd thought. So we came to a compromise. The ticket price stays at £40, and the Club has bought 50 tickets at this price to give away free to fans to make sure everyone has a chance to be there.

These free tickets will be available via an Evening Mail promotional offer, to be announced on Wednesday 22nd July 2015.

Tickets can, as advertised, be purchased at Barrow AFC and via email to emma.athersmith@stmaryshospice.org.uk.. or robert.qazi@stmaryshopsice.co.uk..

We're really sorry for the confusion we've unintentionally caused. We're grateful to you for working with us on this, we're grateful to the club for supporting the free tickets. We hope to see some of you at the event and many more of you during the course of the year.

Val

Oh Lord give me strength. Even I am getting exasperated at this lot now.

We need to liaise a bit sooner over any future fund raising events.
I suppose there will be guaranteed 50 people attending if the tickets are a promotional thing but we are making hard work of it.
I think the hospice is everyone's favourite charity and want them to have a successful and beneficial association with the club.
Who knows some of those winning ticket holders, maybe not supporters of the club, might get the non league football bug and become new supporters for next season.
Thinking positive here folks but it is hard going. :skill:

You couldn't make it up. As a charity which is dear to my heart, I feel every sympathy that tickets weren't snapped up, however I think that you sometimes have to learn lessons that some events just aren't going to be popular. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but with this event, it is not a big draw to many. If we were a Premiership club it would be a bigger thing to meet the players etc, however we are a non league club.

Would have been easier if the club just gave them £2k

This way there's an extra 50 people hopefully going to attend and spend over the bar and raffles etc.

Hmmm

Bad shout really Val. Paying for people to go just to make it more people attend is a bit sad really. It shouldn't have to be that way.

Its mad to think the clubs just paid £2k out for this.

Should have just given the hospice shirt sponsorship for free, and then maybe we wouldn't be in the situation of trying to pay for people to go to events which is pretty poor as it makes us look like we ain't bothered in what should be a great event
Just my opinion

Spot on. We took money off them for sponsorship rightly or wrongly and now we've given most of it back. Add to that taking the half time raffle on match days off the trust (yes that still annoys me) so the hospice can have it, we should have just let them be sponsors for free, let them have their awareness days at matches and do grand draws every so often to raise money. I know I sound like I'm anti hospice, I really am not its a great charity which I always support, but it just looks to me like the club are doing things to justify the sponsorship.

Wow! I didn't know they had taken the half time raffle from the Trust! :/
