Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Thanks.
Do we still have any form of relationship with Coral or has that died a death? They didn't seem particularly arsed in the latter stages of the previous arrangement.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I think the plan is Elaine that it goes up on the five-a-side court (it was actually being erected before) & then to use it for this Friday, after that the size can be altered so it isn't quite as big and it will then be used as a beer tent on matchdays.Holkerbird wrote:I thought the marquee was going on the training pitch next door. The crossbar end clearing is for the beer tent going up for next season to relieve the congestion in the crossbar as far as I know.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
A beer tent? That sounds a good move. Firkins of real beer (36 pints so easily sellable) from independents and bottle conditioned ales, please.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Corals and Ladbrokes are in takeover talks so we may soon just have 2 bookies left in town... when ladbrokes has taken them over (if they are allowed to) that may be the time to ask the questions about an at ground bookies outlet

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
They have merged, not been taken over
I cannot see any reason why a bookie would want an outlet at a non league ground unless it was someone who attracts 3/4000+ every week. Beer tent will be fun in January

That's you sorted, Jamie, but what about the rest of us ale drinkers?Cubbins Paratrooper wrote: Firkins of real beer (36 pints so easily sellable).

I would think it will be cans and plastic glasses.

Cans can make effective weapons, for those inclined to that sort of thing. They are generally on the banned list for supporters entering a sports venue, not necessarily soccer.boyliegladbach wrote:I would think it will be cans and plastic glasses.
Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Have to have beer in the tent if none in the cross bar lol
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it
Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I'd imagine they'd be poured by whoever is serving, and then chucked straight into the recycling (hopefully!)Steelworks End wrote:Cans can make effective weapons, for those inclined to that sort of thing. Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Excellant idea bit like a fan zone - just need pies now and plenty of merchandise
Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Can't believe this thread popped up again but here goes
The press box moved a little nearer completion this morning with the fitting of the boards under the worktop and above the Windows
The ceilings in the stewards office also received a coat of primer ready for insulating and putting up next visit... All heading towards a full paint out and some new fixtures and should be a cracking media facility when done
We also put a new plaque up on the holker end for an AFC and QPR supporter and secured a dangerously low wire from the trust shop to the floodlight... Nice get together after a few months rest in cold conditions

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I thought this group had disbanded. Not a Maintenance "clique" surely.
Re: Ground Maintenance Area
You know who we are Elaine, 3 of us turned up to get paint on our coats, the other went home before he got paint on his director coat haha
Just trying to finish the pressbox with all the materials lying in the workshop ...why not pop down next time for brew and banter

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I thought these guys were extinct after not reading anything for some time had to delve back 148 pages to unearth this but happy to say they may be few but are all very much in existence.
On arrival I soon spotted Peter G marking out and painting the yellow safety stripes on the steps at the stand. Ian R and Tommy P were in the process of fabricating and installing a new hand rail up the steps on the popular side but not before scraping the old paint off the wall and giving it a couple of coats of white. I offered a hand and was soon tasked with scraping the opposite wall in preparation for paint. We did a little shuffle around of gear and it was then I noticed there was another eager beaver Ian rvj (red van joiner) passed with a piece of freshly cut timber he was busy in the club shop making a plinth amongst other things.
It was then that I got my deconstruction engineers badge helping to dismantle the wooden toilet roof from the old toilet above the Directors car park. A quick tidy up only a couple of hours put in by myself double that by the other guys every little helps though , so if anyone has a couple of hours to spare on a Sunday morning and could lend a hand in any way your talents will not go to waste. You might even learn some new skills or hone up on those skills you haven’t used for a while.
I know some of you will be thinking it’s not our club anymore so why bother! Well in my view it will always remain our club a bastion for the community and if you can make a little difference to make it a little more appealing for all supporters up until Paul Casson decides exactly what is going to happen and when it’s going to happen then why not help a little.
Would be nice if the guys post when they are meeting at the ground and what times just so those willing to lend a hand know if it’s a rest weekend or a working weekend. There is much to do and those weeks until the season starts will soon fly by.
