The idea that we are an impoverished backwater re investment is just a local habit of talking the place down. We look to be building trident, plus tens of billions will be invested all up the coast with the building of moorside and continued work at sellafield. The phrase is irritating but it is ' the energy coast'. Weve got to tap into this in a big way, both with companies and with those new families who will come to the area. The club should be supporting the community through providing opportunities for young people, getting as many young folk through the gate as possible, providing an opportunity for furness folk to be proud of the area they come from. We could offer larger busineses a way of being part of this through sponsorship. Its all interlinked and thats what will grow the club,as will listening to and understanding the people already going to holker st

As for us lot, the current fad seems to be to to airbrush all the great moments from the bayliss years. However the support we gave in those conference years, especially away, was second to none, whatever the result. Teams should hate coming to holker street, and as one of our away fans once said, home teams fans should look across at us and say..' what the f7ck!'becauee theyve never seen backing like it before' not because weve got a few quid but because we are barra soccer.
Agreed lets make holker st a place to fear, get on the opposing players backs from the off and give plenty of backing to our boys BTID :scarf: :scarf:
Just my opinion

Bit of an obscure reference for an advert in 2015 I've always thought. What's next, Tim Robbins sculpting a Jelly Baby out of a piece of alabaster?

Reminds me of a joke I made up once -

The latest Hollywood blockbuster is about a Workington supporter who was wrongly imprisoned. It's called "The Sheepsh@g Redemption".

By definition we cannot achieve the impossible. No one can.

We can achieve that which is expected to be very difficult, however, which was the question obviously implied by the colloquial nature of the figure of speech used. It's clearly not literally impossible to achieve promotion, as there are two promotions places which we would gain if we acquired sufficient points. Naturally the original poster felt (quite rightly) that the existence of those promotion places was assumed knowledge within the domain of this forum and therefore that anybody reading would understand that the phrase "achieving the impossible" relates to the expected difficulty of the task, not an actual impossible goal.

+1. I don't feel we have strengthened enough to have a good go at this level. I think we'll survive, but surely we should be aiming a little higher than that?

Cokey wrote:Just to add some stats to the topic (my favourite thing!).

I've looked at how each newly promoted side from the Conference North got on in their first season in the Conference National after promotion. Here's the list:

2005/06 - Southport - 18th
2006/07 - Northwich Victoria - 13th
2007/08 - Droylsden - 24th
2008/09 - Kettering Town - 8th
2009/10 - Tamworth - 16th
2010/11 - Southport - 21st
2011/12 - Alfreton Town - 15th
2012/13 - Hyde - 18th
2013/14 - Chester - 21st
2014/15 - AFC Telford United - 23rd

With Kettering Town being the only side to finish in the top half of the table, I'll be more than happy with a mid-table finish.
Cheers for this, fascinating stat..!!!

It is, especially when you also take into account that, Kettering, the highest placed club (by quite a long way) disappeared into oblivion not long afterwards. The second highest place club, Northwich Victoria have been in a mire of financial difficulties for years and now groundshare at Wincham Park, home of Witton Albion. Fascinating indeed.
