Barrow vs Dover - Match thread

Excellent crowd today we looked a bit dodgy at the back today thought we rode our luck abit and though fofana had a good game an cook too a good start to the season an good win against a useful dover side.

Fofana was yep. I would have given it to him aswell.... his part in the Cook winner probably swayed it

i know its off topic.. but i just had a giggle seeing Fylde got beat 3-0 and richie allen was shown a straight red

good result, could have been 3-0 down 20 minutes in. Cooky worked his socks off even at the end when our players were trying to kill him with the lumps up the pitch Fofana pretty much played Lacey's role and did well so will be interesting to see what edmo does Tuesday, Mellor was poor imo

Bring on Grimsby, can't start like we did today or we will be punished.

Thought we were in for right doing after the first 15-20 minutes, settled down a bit after the 2 goals but need to improve massively to compete at this level. I'd have give the MotM to Cookie, the Dover defence were terrified of him, although Mo came more into it as the game progressed, thought Walker looked lively after coming on but overall 3 good points.

Decent enough game against a good Dover team. Cookys first was down to a mistake by their number 5 (?) after some good pressure on him by Cooky himself. The second was down to another mistake by Dover virtually the half way line in front of the main stand, some cracking play by Barrow with probably 10 passes strung together - mainly involving Mo Fofana, doubt we'll see a better team goal this season.

Great one handed save by Dixon early on when they had a one-on-one. Strange decision to take Andy Haworth off unless he was injured as I thought he looked very dangerous for us. Grimes seemed to come into it a lot more as the first half wore on. Symington should have had it wrapped up for us but his touch was terrible and allowed their keeper to clear the danger.

We were lucky to limit them to one as we cleared one off the line and they had one disallowed. All in all a good test for the new team & a great start, a very good gate in mid holiday season as well.

Apart from a shaky first 15/20 minutes it was a battling performance, and a crucial three points to get us going with the next two games coming up. Midfield of Mellor and Fofana is much of an improvement to what we had last season. Grand and Livesey were decent yet again. Apart from the touch that let him down one on one, I thought Symington showed flashes of being a decent player after he came on. Dixon is also an upgrade compared to McMillan and Taylor - he looks much more assured in commanding his box I'd say. Cook and Grimes have to be our leading partnership with the latter providing a bit more than Walker.

Happy with the three points.

Team worked hard,they had to as Dover were a fast physical team typical of what we will see this season.
Good start to season hopefully we see it "aint gonna" be easy but we can compete at this level.
Ashton my man of match,but Walker definitely improved things when he came on.

Loved it- nervy start but we eventually settled and it was a good battle. This is what its going to be like every game and the step up in quality from last season was a bit of a wake up. Dover looked a very good outfit.

Our second goal was a brilliant bit of movement. Shall look forward to watching that one again.

A win's a win, but it could have gone either way.

I would like to have seen the lad Mellor put the same amount of effort in as Mo to help out the front runners but hey, its early doors yet.

Fabulous result but much of it was down to Dover not taking their chances. We need to improve massively or we will not take our chances.
