Grimsby v BARROW match thread

For all things Barrow AFC. Keep discussions civil and fair, we're all Barrow aren't we!

I think this is a wake up call. hope we learn lessons from tonight. Not sure why Cowps is RB saw him at Hyde last season & he was clearly uncomfortable against a speedy winger. He is a holding midfield or even a left back for me.

Grimsby are the standard we need to aspire to....eventually.

We've been well and truly hammered tonight. Whether starting with two up top would have made a difference who knows - Could argue that point all night but fair do's - this lot have played with a swagger.

Elliot Newby on- what a big occasion for the lad- pity about the score.

Williams should be chomping at the bit now then.

Possibly laughing at us, but only because talk of us doing well and being top half, in reality we are seeing a real championship winning side tonight and Barrow are the newcomers still adjusting. We saw the shocking difference in standard when we got relegated back to conference north a few years ago, now we are experiencing the step back up, the team needs time to adjust. Doubt we are anywhere near play-off standard, mid table more like.

Hope the players step up, a wasted lots of efforts last season, can't do that this season.

Wouldn't it be good if we tried to be positive and start with Newby.

This is not a wake up call! All the present back 4 are very slow so we have to play to our strengths which is to go at teams we haven't got the quality in our squad to try and keep out the quality players that the top 8 teams possess.
I for one will be happy to stay half way anybody who thought our squad was playoff material were deluding themselves!

The manager and chairman can't have it both ways tho can they - they can't talk up our prospects for the season and then complain when people are disappointed - I didn't expect us to win tonight but I thought we might at least have had a go - maybe we did I wasn't there but it didn't sound like we did

I am pleased for Elliot Newby hope he starts on Saturday.

Well done Elliott, kept going to the end!!!! :scarf:

In fairness Grimsby have been improving their squad over the last few seasons and it sounds like they are or very close to being the finished article!!

Hopefully this means they change their mind on sending Newby out on loan
