We should have put the game to bed first half but too few shots and second half we didn't look in it. It's gonna be a long season!

3 points against 1 of the worst sides I've sen at this level. We looked very nervy, so hoping the 3 points will settle those nerves a little. Awful to watch mind. Nice that Ruthers got a good reception when he came on.

Ok so we're not Barcelona but a win is what was needed and we got it. Another win on Monday and morale and confidence will be better.

Referee was another clown with small man syndrome but well done to the lines woman for spotting the second red cos the referee hadn't seen it.

Finally, Joel Dixon - I had my day last week which some didn't like. I stand by what I said but today he was excellent, the save at the end amazing. That's what I expected from him well done Joel - maybe he read the comments on here bluebird 90

Disappointing Att today, scrappy sounding game but 3points bagged, unbeaten at home & 8 teams are below us in the table Elliot Newby sounds a real prospect, Onwards & Upwards

A much needed 3 points against a poor side who we struggled to look convincing against we just couldnt seem to find that cutting edge to finish them off hopefully it will settle our nerves an we go on to gain some points at halifax now

I think after our start the result mattered far more than the performance - and next we play a Halifax side who are by all accounts on a par with Southport. A positive result of any kind there - preferably a win will take any nerves away.

Massive overreaction there. Barrow were never out of second gear, and maybe seemed a bit too casual at times, but in terms of quality between the two sides there was a gulf. Southport were as bad as any Conference North team I can remember last season and mustered an off-target volley and a goal line scramble all game.

We didn't look amazing, but it was a comfortable win except for a nervy last few minutes.

Thought we looked half decent for much of the first half (against a very poor team I admit) Haworth still our biggest threat from wide, looked good today when running at players but unfortunately slipped out of the game in the second half (as did a few others)
Jase looked lively again, Paddy did ok. ARH had a decent first half. Dixon is looking better & better with each game he plays and made two or three outstanding saves today along with some pretty assured catching, for quite a slight looking lad, he isn't afraid to fly into the thick of things.

Overall, a pretty poor game and from midway in the second half we just seemed to be doing anything possible to pass a few more seconds on.
Southport on that showing will probably be one of the worst teams to visit HS this season, if there's anyone worse they'll surely be relegation favourites.

Glad the lineswoman saw their number five committing the foul towards the end because the ref seemed to miss it and I thought he'd seen our player retaliate and I thought he was going instead.

Points first, performance second atm, so job done even if it wasn't pretty.

Okay, we won, but nevertheless I feel strongly that we need to log on to http://www.lol.com or, to put it another way, when will we learn our lesson? The lesson being that we should stop sitting back on narrow leads, stop settling for scrambling scrappy wins. We did this nearly all last season, only really coming alive in the last two home matches of the season when we played with verve and character. And we’ve done exactly the same in the first three home matches this season when, if I’m honest, we were fortunate to beat Dover, the Guiseley match could have gone either way and today we could have ended up with a 1-1 draw but for miraculous events at the end. I know I’m grumbling after we have won but I think it’s a poor show when we find ourselves desperately hanging on at home against the bottom side in the league. It’s true that against some teams in this league we might find ourselves getting outplayed and pressed back, even at home, but we certainly need to be taking the fight to the opposition in most of our home matches. There’s a big difference between being pinned back in our own half when our opponents are better than us and sitting back as a strategy, trying to hang onto a 1-0 lead against a bottom-of-the-table side. Let’s see us giving it a right go, let’s see us trying to go forward even when we are winning.

The other pointer arising from today’s match is that there’s a case for MOTM announcements being delayed till the very end. The keeper gets it today for me, as his “worldy” saved us from a draw at the end, just as MOTM was being given out! In a scrappy match that one moment alone was enough to earn him MOTM for me but his much improved coming for, and handling of, crosses (after a nervy few moments in earlier matches) was the stand-out feature of today’s performances.
