In most of the games I have seen this season so far our workrate and endeavour has been very good, epitomised by ‘veteran’ striker Jase the Ace who has been inspirational. This, together with the squad now starting to gel and find out each other’s strengths and weaknesses looks more promising for the rest of the season.

And like the match day announcer, if I could only tell Simon Grand and Mo Fofana apart I would be really warming to life in the National League. Finally, that Linclon supporter’s view on things - that journey down our cool-de-sac then getting beat really brings out the best in people doesn’t it?

I think he is right about us being awful to watch and points at home will be a lot easier to get than they will away.

Just strange he has said that when thats the least route one Ive seen us this season.

Must say the latter point occurred to me as well!

Thought we played some decent stuff at times last night and left Lincoln chasing shadows but the long ball (ironically in the light of what has been said and written about Lincoln) also unsettled them. They should have come when it was windy!

There were several very good performances by our team but I was particularly pleased for Lacey and Cowps in midfield - a good show especially for such young lads. Good to see the other Williams ('Willow' apparently!) back and looking so composed.

Good defending left their 9XXL whinging throughout the second half and barely reaching the ball. Complaining vociferously at one point about Livesey putting his arms around him. Ridiculous! He couldn't possibly reach.

Improved performances will lead to more success away from home.

Just as against Eastleigh, that was a hugely enjoyable and battling win against fierce, if limited, opposition. Tremendous victory. As for the long ball concerns (which I have shared many times over the last 13 months) I think we played much more football last night and, even though the scoreline must seem like another scrappy 1-0 win to the stop-aways, the truth is that a 3 or 4 goal win would not have flattered us last night. Well done to all. Hope we can get G. Williams signed up for longer than three months. As for S. Williams he appears to have the composure and class on the ball that Bolland had but, importantly, the bite to go with it.

I had a similar problem over that Grand/ Mo Fofana announcement, Gary. The only difference is it was my hearing rather than my vision that was impaired; I thought the announcer said Walter Palmer (Mo Fofana???) was coming on. I got excited for a moment, thinking we haven’t managed to get Walter Palmer on loan have we? Sadly not, it seems. I suppose I should go to - - - erm not Specsavers but whatever the audio equivalent might be.

So Lincoln don't play the ball long or in the air then,bit confusing !!!

Really funny read that thread. There is even another one on there claiming we give long ball a bad name If they think that of Barrow what they must think of their own team?

What can you say, i've got a few moments i'll make a list...

1) In the build up to this match the press constantly labelled Lincoln as a long/direct team that rely heavily on Rhead and very physical with their aerial bombardment, including a very long throw into the box. Barrow's manager Edmo also repeated some of these comments pre-match. The distinct impression our team was going to get beaten up, came to mind. So we set up to combat that and did a very good job of matching fire with fire. We got exactly what the press predicted.

2) Long ball Lincoln/Barrow, some one as already said pot and kettle. What team wouldn't play a few long balls out from the back when the other side constantly over commits leaving aches of space at the back. Turning defence into attack on the counter, the aerial bombardment was dealt with and we were simply taking advantage of the open space our forwards were left in. Unlike Lincoln, Barrow did actually use other methods of attack as well, see 3.

3) If Lincoln actually had a midfield they might have actually stopped wingers Howarth, Pilkington and defensive midfielder Cowperthwaite from actually running right through their team with the ball. At one point Cowps ran with the ball through the Lincoln team and ended up 1 on 1 with their keeper who made a fantastic save. Howarth and Pilkington constantly left Lincoln players standing as they breezed past them. That's called football not long ball.

4) It is a shame we had to set up so defensively at the back to defend against the constant high balls. Otherwise we could have fielded some of our midfield ball players instead of two defensive midfielders. We wouldn't have just played Lincoln off the park like we did we would have destroyed them. But you have to respect the way your opponents attack and defend accordingly so we did. Some poor finishing and an excellent display from the Lincoln keeper Farman kept the score line from being a land slide. As Barrow manager Edmo said post-match, Lincoln couldn't have complained if they had come away 3-0 or 4-0.

4) Time wasting, if you want to see real time wasting rewind to last season and almost every team that came to Holker St took ages to get the ball from the very first kick. Slow like you've never seen it was order of the day. They all knew if they tried to keep the game moving they would concede, and they were right. Lincoln started the slow down very early in the 1st half as they were under the cosh and couldn't get out as we played around them. Yes at 1-0 the Barrow keeper Dixon did exactly what Farman did at 0-0, he took an age over his kicks pot and kettle again. It is amazing how much a goal can speed up a time wasting side like it did last night.

5) Fouling was rife last night. The ref did not do either side any favours and a lot of Lincoln players went down at the slightest of touches after the ball was played, then promptly got up when the ref ignored them. Welling United player Sahr Kabba became the first player this season to be suspended for feigning injury, last night half of the Lincoln team could have fallen foul of that new law. For a physical side Lincoln didn't half go down a lot and complain surrounding the ref. Two or more players surrounding the ref in a confrontational manor can get your club into trouble with new rule changes. A lot of things happened last night that the crowd picked up on but the officials ignored, the Barrow players for the most part just got on with it with minimal fuss.

6) When things go against you dig deep. Lincoln in particular Rhead just constantly moaned. We've seen teams come to Barrow before and moan in a similar manor, it doesn't help them get anything from the game and serves to make their failure all the more complete. Usually they are really big sides, usually with lots of money behind them, full of prima donna types that look down on Barrow. Luton, Fleetwood come to mind in recent years, they walked away with nothing, didn't think Lincoln were that type but they were going very close. Some teams and supporters find if very hard to accept they have been well beaten.

7) I'm sure roles will be reversed at Lincoln

Great team performance against a reasonable but not stunning Lincoln side. Starting to look up the table rather than down again. We haven't got a world beating team but I don't think it would take a great amount of strengthening to be challenging for the playoffs. Simply because there are some very poor looking teams in the league. I expected much more from Lincoln. Definitely the best I've seen us play this season. Our full backs look great and Ashton can really put a ball over too, Williams looked comfortable and solid at centre back. Cowps was excellent. Jason looked hungry again. Cook always dangerous and could have had a hat trick. However playing against a stronger team we'll need to take a higher percentage of out chances to get a result.

Winnable games on the next two Saturdays and I could see us getting a result at Macc. Happy days!

They were a bang average side and if it had been 3-4 nil they could have no complaints. The fact it was only 1-0 tells you how well their keeper played.

Eastleigh and and Lincoln are good teams In this league, only Barrow were winning the battles , and Livesey was superb in both games as a defensive unit we stopped the opposition from playing for large periods of both games. Going forward we are improving ! Roll on Sat!

Just seen the highlights - we were like the red arrows at times ! On another day Cook would of bagged a hatrick, it's coming!
