Re: Aldershot Town match thread
Thought we did ok in the first half, but Aldershot had us worked out and we didn't have any ideas to unlock them. We will struggle against any sides with pace up front all season.
Top effort from the away support, Holker St is a pretty quiet place recently.....

I only put a little bit in!

+1 good post ianspirit of 1990 wrote:Really??? anything other than three points to Aldershot would've been a travesty.Moribund wrote:A draw would've been fair.
We were so poor compared to Tuesday it makes you wonder what can happen in the space of four days that justifies that sort of performance!
If Pilks wasn't injured why the [SwearFilter] was he taken off, if he was injured, why wait till the start of the second half to take him off? unless he got a knock in the first half - just seems odd.
1-3 down and we bring Wilson on with eight minutes to play and then we take our top scorer off was ridiculous, take one of your defensive midfielders off and at least give it a go. Humping long balls to our forwards when they had a player like (cant remember his name,) clearing everything just DID not make sense.
Very poor tactics, very, very poor display and a team & manager who look like they've been found wanting.
Someone said it looks like PC isn't getting his monies worth with this team and they're 100% right, is that down to players or management?
Another chance to impress 1500 people and as we have done for years....we blow it.
Aldershot well worth their three points.
how we get there i don,t no.Barrows on the way
Re: Aldershot Town match thread
The thought occurs to me, Gary, (especially after a debacle such as today) that I have been carrying out the same experiment of walking to Holker Street ever since 1962, all the time expecting different results and thinking “today is the start of a bright new dawn”. Well, technically I suppose the results are different because we are one league lower down the ladder than we were 53 years ago. Given the words you quoted, I sense there might be an uncomfortable conclusion to draw from that about myself but fortunately I am too dim to work out exactly what it is.Wintergreen wrote: Thought for the Day: Was it Einstein or Paul Casson who said idiocy was repeating the same experiment time and time again and expecting a different result?

Re: Aldershot Town match thread
It's bad enough loosing but it's the manner in which we lost that's most disappointing we seem to lack a leader to put us back on track when we are struggling, we can't keep messing around with the midfield if edmo doesn't know who to play here then he shouldn't be in the job!
One of the problems today was that cookey had an off day and the way we play has him central to the attack (because we have too few options available), with pilkington being injury prone we have to sign a quality winger (sorry but I think elliot Newby is a good impact player not ready yet)
Thought we missed williams at the back today over to you edmo!

Too well organised for us - we lack a controlling midfield player - but we know that as its mentioned for the last 3 years...
Tough game Tues now as well - mystery where Mellor has vanished to..

No complaints about the result. Aldershot deserved to take the three points back to Hampshire, but sorry, they were no more than solid and organised for me. They didn't look anything special - we gave them two, arguably three free goals. The first was a carbon copy of Halifax's equaliser, the second was a case of "yours/mine/yours/nobody's" and the third....yeah okay a decent finish but from where I stood (albeit at the HS end) it looked like the lad just waltzed through unchallenged.
At the risk of sounding simplistic, we are too prone to letting in soft goals and not scoring enough at the other end.....and we seem incapable of changing track when it isn't working out. Three problems. That's all.

Re: Aldershot Town match thread
Apart from the two full backs and the keeper Ian, it's a mystery why the manager signed all the other dross. As for Howarth, he's got some skill, but he's an absolute coward. He cops out of every tackle. We were losing 3 _ 1 and the manager takes a forward off ( leading scorer by the way ) and brings some useless sort of a winger on, brilliant ! Did he change the formation either, no he never. Clueless. Time for another meeting Mr. Casson before you jet off back.
Re: Aldershot Town match thread
poor today second best all round somebody called moribund or whatever said a draw would have been a fair result ? obviously doesn't know much about football as the shots won at a canter better team all round one step foreward two steps back Symington is awfull why bring him on so early and why wait till the game is gone to try and change things ? cooky was 2nd best all afternoon but not slagging him off his marker was class Harvey not good enough what was that all about bringing him on ? bad day at the office

Re: Aldershot Town match thread
If you [SwearFilter] the ball up field youll end up giving away possession a lot of the time. Simon Grand just doesnt understand that.
Symington is [SwearFilter] shit. Complete waste of time. Worst player Ive seen at the club since Andy Nicholas.
Another game goes by where we don't score more than one goal.
No chance anyone can say we were unlucky today, we were easily beaten and just had no answer to anything.
Long ball, long ball , long ball.
Lets have it on the deck for 5 minutes and see how easy it is when you control the tempo and possession of the game.

Contrary to those on here that have given Aldershot no credit. I thought they were excellent and outplayed us everywhere. Their passing was slick, their movement off the ball was good to watch and proved they listened to their manager, who takes all the credit for playing that way after travelling all that way and not coming for a point. If I was a Barrow fan doing the opposite journey I would be paralytic with joy on the coach back.

Re: Aldershot Town match thread
Don't know if you have had a bad day today Charlie, but come on, TWO dreadful sides. Only one sorry mate. They were by far the best side we have played. I watched them a few times on BT Sport last season an thought they played the game the right way.Bingo wrote:If Andy Wood thinks thinks they were the best side to come to Holker Street this season them maybe it's time for me to stop going
Two dreadful sides today - waste of time money and effort feel sorry for Casson because I bet our squad are paid more than aldershots and he's not getting good Value for money
Nice to see that group of kids signing Barrow in the second half other than that not very good

Hope they found somewhere to film the bootroom this week so Russell Dodd can skirt around everything and ask pussy questions.
