Price of Football

I got slated on the national league banter page (#notbothered) by tranmere fans the other night because I called them robbing [SwearFilter] for the price of a can of lager and burgers at their place. It's up to personal choice whether you pay it or not but I don't like being ripped off and the prices they were charging were ridiculous. Gate price they were ott as well imo and I think what we charge is about right.

Bingo I don't know which Costa you drink in but I've never paid £4

Please do not talk of "deprivation" and "austerity" to those who know what these words really mean. This old fart can still remember food and clothing rationing which continued for many years after the second world war. The generation before me suffered REAL austerity. This old, working fart also resents supporting those self-defined "working class" people who make a living from defrauding genuine working people by falsely claiming state benefits.

Football, television, mobile phones, holidays, etc., etc,. are luxuries not necessities. They are businesses which must pay their way or drown. They are also services which we, as individuals, can subscribe to or reject. Thus it is up to the individual whether he can afford to watch Barrow AFC play at home, follow them away or not at all.

So please don't complain about National League ticket prices. Try looking at a West End show or a day out at Blackpool.

Very much a generalization,Barrow is struggling and to say all people on benefits are scroungers is totally wrong.
I know people who work three jobs to make ends meet.

Your generation have inflation linked pensions,free bus passes,heating allowance, free TV licences and closed shops ,the arrogance to be rude because you are old I would suggest you were always rude just older now.

If you take into account the deprivation level in Barrow, low employment and low income... Then £15 to watch a non-league football game isn't exactly cheap.

Barrow actually doesn't do too badly in terms of average income amongst those who are employed. And remember that this is football, a lot of the younger guys who want to go to football are in the yard earning decent money for their age.

High unemployment, true, but frankly if you're unemployed and on the basic dole of, what, £60 a week (by which I mean just "don't have a job", not necessarily long term sick or are a carer etc), you probably couldn't afford to go to football at half the price....

Barrow isn't exactly minted, and yeah the unemployment rate is a bit high, but not by that big a margin, and we really don't do too badly once you consider house prices, low rents, cheap fuel etc

To go to every home game and get a burger and a can of pop will cost you less than £7 a week... hardly breaking the bank
