Edmo wants a new winger
Re: Edmo wants a new winger
What difference does it make - ourselves not playing our own youngsters but playing 18 year olds from Preston?
Popular side since '03.
Re: Edmo wants a new winger
Maybe the Fylde game would be the ideal stage for the likes of the Newbys and Carrol to be given a full game.
Re: Edmo wants a new winger
Has Edmo actually said the words that he believes E Newby isn't physically strong enough? He might have done but if so I don't recall it.
Whether he should be given a start at present I'm still not sure, but I can see the argument for it.

On the subject of wingers, didnt see saturdays game but a few have reported Pilks looked knackered, I saw the Alty game and he did about as much running as Stephen Hawking after the initial first 10 minutes, pretty unfit by the sounds.

Re: Edmo wants a new winger
It seems a bit odd that he is happy to rotate the majority of the rest of the squad but hasn't given E Newby a good run out. It wouldn't do his confidence any harm to give him a start. His game isn't about physical strength anyway. He doesn't need to be strong to skip past a defender and centre a ball. Our most dangerous crosses more often than not come from Ashton or to a lesser extent Symington/Williams, which is an added bonus to their games but I'd prefer to us spreading the play further up the field more often. Howarth is improving but Pilks seems to be putting in some average performances. Start with Newby and bring Pilks on for some impact if it doesn't work out?Kieran wrote:Has Edmo actually said the words that he believes E Newby isn't physically strong enough? Yes. It was shortly after Elliot got smashed in front of the main stand.Kieran wrote:Has Edmo actually said the words that he believes E Newby isn't physically strong enough? He might have done but if so I don't recall it.

If he was not local would people be so keen to see him start.
The bottom line is, at present he is not big enough or strong enough to compete for 90 minutes in the national league, exposing him now could set him back years if he got bullied. What he needs is game time at a lower level in the pyramid (either National North or even with 'Wukkie' in the Glue league) to build up his experiences gradually. The same can be said for his brother & Brad Carroll.
These three locals could well be the future of Barrow, but not at the minute, what Edmo needs now is players who are battle hardened in the National league level or above (Men not Boys).

Could Mcnulty have done a job for us on the wing?

Elliot himself seems to agree with Mr Memories:The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:memories of 67 wrote: Nice response a former member of this forum, glad to see you are maintaining your high standards as always with your informative & knowledgeable incite into all things football.

But Newby himself agrees with the way his fledgling career is being handled and understands that Edmondson has to bring him on in a sensible manner.
“I agree completely with that, because if he throws me into a game and maybe I don’t do so well and people start saying ‘he’s too young’ then that can have a bigger affect (in a negative way),” said Newby.

Tbh I would rather Elliot say he is eager to be given his chance and that he knows he would learn more from actual game time! Edmo to say something like there will be mistakes along the way but that's progress of any young player in a Barrow shirt.

Too late to sign McNulty anyway, he has just gone on loan to Tranmere.ant wrote:Could Mcnulty have done a job for us on the wing?

Giving people a run out in cup games was tried last year with spectacular lack of success!mall wrote:Maybe the Fylde game would be the ideal stage for the likes of the Newbys and Carrol to be given a full game.
