We have an owner who has little in the way of contacts in the football world and neither has he been brought up with it. As a result he doesn't really understand either the commercial or football side of things. Both of these are failing miserably. If he truly wants progress then he needs a proper commercial manager to sort that side out (as you well know) and a proper structure in place on the football side. If he was well grounded in football and lived here then there would be no need at all for the idea of a director of football but the fact is he isn't and therefore unless he can get a really good experienced manager then my alternative is perfectly viable. We presently have a manager and assistant why is that "team" so far removed form a "team" consisting of a director of football/manager and a playing manager/assistant. It also seems the players aren't as fit as they should be and so proper coaches are also needed. If we get promoted in the next 2/3 years I'd expect this kind of set up to put in place anyway. That is essentially what we had with Bayles and shezza and the model is a good one even if those two had their "issues".

The club off the pitch is still as bad as it was years ago. Theres no improvement. The people brought in to help run the club and freinds and family. I agree they need a commercial manager (an actual one not a casson one) . Thats a different discussion to whats going on at the moment so save that for another thread.

As for on the pitch we need a manager with contacts all over. Cut out the middle man idea of a director of football. Someone like Graham Alexander. He has been all over and should be being prepared for this job. Played well over 800 football leagues games, Played international level , plenty of experience and contacts in and around the area we train (played for Burnley and Preston). We can't go on season after season with a manager that has 3 phone numbers stored in his phone all based in and around Carlisle. If Edmo stays then i just cannot see us being anything other than a mid table carlisle reserves for however long he is in charge.

If we advertised the job, applicants would know our position at the moment ,our potential , our plans for the future and would be falling over each other to hand their CV's in.

I'm not entirely sure about why Graham Alexander, with no non league experience, has a few on a retainer here, and I would also like to think a few targets could be applied in the commercial office, family or not, that's as frustrating as the team.

We are talking as if Edmo has had it. Every time we've got to meltdown stage..When he first came in, The Fylde Christmas, Brackley Away, Halifax away, Bromley, Saturday, he's done just enough to turn it round. Trouble is, it never sticks and the underlying lessons are never learned. It's a management call by PC..give a period of time so it's not about the next game and hedge your bets as to who you'll give your transfer window money to.

Let's not leave the players totally out of the firing line either; Simon Grand for instance has plenty to prove at this level over the years- certainly too much to be throwing a hissy fit about staying in a hotel overnight. Danny Livesey has had a inconsistent time despite havering in the press about agendas. You live and die by your senior players- then there's rumblings about his relationship with Jason Walker.. Anthony Wilson and Pilks have been a disaster because of injuries. Edmo is seen as too soft on them all, one of the reasons they are getting such a tough reaction from the terraces IMO.

Why would he not just say to Edmo in private, "look I'm not happy, you've got a month to turn it around or I'm getting someone in who can" Why come out and go to the press and say that in public? Can't see what that achieves, it's very tinpot and show a lack of respect to Edmo if you ask me, who may not be pulling up any trees but he deserves some level of respect for the effort he's put in. He now has to operate under a month with everyone watching him knowing that he's pretty much a dead man walking, it makes a bad situation worse.

he could have at least just give him the dreaded vote of confidence and then sacked him. It's a bit humiliating to say in public that he's job is under threat and he's got a month to prove himself - that conversation while very valid should have been conducted in private, maybe he's trying to force his hand and get him to resign so he doesn't have to pay up the remainder of his contract

I don't think he was actually quoted as saying this. Perhaps whilst being interviewed about the defeat he said he was very disappointed and perhaps the interviewer then asked if Edmo position safe then perhaps Casson said lets see how we get on for the next month then have another look at it. all possible and quite capable of being twisted. I don't know. Perhaps it will become a bit clearer when he is live on the radio?

Ok so for these next 6 games...lets all get right behind Edmo and the boys , see if we can do our bit and see if this can extract anything else from the team and management and if it doesnt happen we can all say...do you know what Paul...you were right!!

I will agree with something I heard this weekend and paraphrase a little...if PC is sure enough to make this statement then his mind is probably already made up. Why drag it out?
Graham Alexander doesn't, as it was rightly stated, have non-league experience. Well thankfully our aim is not non-league, it's (eventual) promotion from it.
