We deserved the title last season , not by miles but we won it , 100% deserved too go up anyways , Fylde were unlucky but they imploded , we fought on . We had a cracking home record , Bogle came in and took all 3 from Holker in a rare win for the away team last season , so you can say that put a spanner in the title challenge! We have a good squad , just players are not putting a shift in, for me, if your a full time player on 800-1000 a week you should be self motivated , if the players we have step up and play full 90 we'll have a good season. Also Edmo was banking on Wilson coming back too a certain level , sadly that wasn't too be , paid good money for him and he was a talent , great shame for all at Barrow that he is once again out injured .

The current position in the league would suggest that, as consolidation seasons go, we're bang on track, but Edmo isn't under pressure from his boss and the fans because of the position in the league is he? Most of us would have settled for 15th after 18 games at the start of the season. The pressure he's under is a direct consequence of failing to excite and engage the fans and the town. It's all very flat at the moment and Paul has intervened, in the hope of salvaging some momentum before it's too late. A good cup run would have gone a long way to re-engaging the fans and keeping that momentum going on the field and the terraces to complement his ambitions off the field. It's clear to me that another frankly pitiful cup exit was as unacceptable to him as it was to us. He's a fan too, and Barrow fans do not tolerate gutless performances. If Edmo doesn't make it into December, it will be dour, brainless football, poor recruitment, baffling decision making, and a general lack of dynamism that will have been his undoing. I for one genuinely hope he fully understands the reasons why his leadership is under such close scrutiny, and can address them. I really hope he can pull himself out of this.
Clean ace down the T there, Moonwatcher. Even Djokovic wouldn’t be able to return what you’ve said there with any counter-argument. Maximum guts on the line and an effort to entertain ought to be givens in any match, even if results don’t always work out.

To his credit, Paul Casson did stress in the radio interview that it wasn’t so much about results but more about the approach to the games that he would be focusing on during this next month. In other words, if we lose two or three of the next seven games (and trips to Wrexham and Dover are not likely to be easy) but we go down all guns blazing and giving it a real good go then Paul Casson, and no doubt many realistic fans, will probably recognise it in a reasonably positive light. Obviously, a situation can’t persist forever where we repeatedly end up plucky losers because results do matter, but in this season of “consolidation” where most are not expecting oak trees to be pulled up I think most fans will cut the management and players a bit of slack if they do end up on the wrong end of some score-lines, provided we have “left it all out there” and provided we have tried to produce some offensive play (that’s offensive in the sense of attacking as opposed to offensive in the sense of insulting to people who have not paid to watch a bus being parked - - - - particularly at home).

I agree players on that amount of money should be self motivated
One thing is for sure, if they are not and leave Barrow they won't see that kind of money again.

Great post, and all good points. I don't think anyone disputes that Fylde were a better footballing side than us, maybe Guiseley too. If points were awarded for being entertaining, we would have struggled to reach the play-offs, but winning titles is often about being hard to beat, grinding out results whilst others drop points, winning ugly when necessary. Ask any Arsenal fan. We deserved to win the league, but won few friends, and no new fans.

Good interview on sky sports today with Ian Holloway discussing the ridiculous power of the players and how it's up to them to earn their wages. He was flying the flag for managers and was mightily annoyed by players getting managers sacked. If a player is brought in to the team he should perform to the best of his abilities.
Food for thought.
Stood behind Ray Wilkie for years. Best education I ever had.

Watched Class of 92 out of their league Salford fc- before and obviously they have been bringing in players from higher leagues these days ! But they had players kicking off in training , one player a high earner , kicked off after being dropped, only too say (matchday) fck u too the boss and said I'm not sitting the bench ! Great watch mind . Also I remember Arry Redknapp saying when I started coaching we took the players onto the hills and into the woods for hard training , gone are those days , you couldn't get away with that now! Crazy . Going back too that Salford program , Gary Neville said some home truth's about players at semi pro upwards level , Edmo and the players should sit down and watch it !

Dont get me wrong barrows performances have been far from great but for casson to come out publicly and say edmo has a month to save his job is [SwearFilter] wrong! Really hope edmo proves casson wrong, we will be here long after casson has [SwearFilter] off
Just my opinion

Was thinking the same - wasn't a fan of GN when he played, but you can't argue with much of what he says, especially the bit about non league players having choices...

Grant Holt- great watching him fly up the divisions, yea he could find the net, but he was a guy who put 100% in every game and got the rewards .

I'm sorry, but Casson can do as he sees fit, you seem to forget that without him coming in, we may not have had a club to support.
Yes, I hope Edmo can turn it around, but I have my doubts.

P.S. I'm not Paul Casson either, Ha Ha

Neil Ashton interview interview in paper today. Players one million per cent behind Edmo.
Bit of a dig at Casson over it being in the public.

I like Ashton and think I he should be captain, looks more of a leader than grand or livesey

Always gives 100 % Ashton and would make a good captain. One of our better signings along with Dixon.

Well then the senior players including Neil Ashton need to find a higher level of consistency, Edmo needs to stop them just lumping it aimlessly and everyone will be very happy.

Which goes back to the point everyone is on about and that's centre midfield.
When our defence has the ball nobody wants it.
Look at baker last week, wanted the ball all the time, was taking off his centre half and keeper.
Non of our 5 central players seem to want the ball.
