I can't stand these badly dressed, inbred, roidy boy, liberty taking jakies, just to be clear. Both my son and I took a few lumps at this. And 90% of them were just neds, not even hooligans.

However the sentences are ridiculous. You can't have a situation where football offences are being judged completely differently to any other assaults, sex crimes, death by dangerous driving, manslaughter. Some of the people jailed haven't thrown a punch.

I would be much happier if I thought it was about what happened on the day.

The only person who should get the jail is the one who punched GC, if they even know which one it was. This has got little to do with justice, and everything to do with a set of authorities in the midlands trying to justify themselves after making a spectacular error in not policing and stewarding adequately, then being made to look foolish in the national media.

I very much respect the difference of opinion of the vast majority who I was there with.
Its a tough one this. I am actually shocked at the severity of the sentences. I expected an absolute maximum of 6 months (and probably more like 2 or 3) for all of them if I am honest which for me would have sufficed.

As someone who gave evidence at two trials I am glad it wasn't wasted time but I do think the sentences are overly harsh and it is pretty clear that a message is being sent out.

However, that said, these people were stupid enough to
1) cause trouble
2) get caught
3) in a lot of cases boast about it on social media and show no remorse
4) to have the most pathetic, ridiculous defence in a lot of cases
5) in some cases have previous

In the end they put themselves in that situation and I do believe that a lot of it was pre-planned. They took a risk and it has backfired spectacularly. I feel more sorry for their families than them.

I wasn't there and will not comment what happened. But, it seems to me after two years of of typical drawn out legal regulations, justice through the courts has been
seen to have been done. I hope the ones that were directly involved from Barrow who were assaulted etc can now feel some kind of justice having what they went through on the day I know some of them.. But, it also appears that some who were there feel sorry that prison sentences have been handed out. While certain others seem to want their club kicked out of football . Also, pre meditated means you will get a longer sentence, which these were to the little person who mentioned it earlier.

Lots of aggravating factors. Sentencing is right I think. Violent disorder does not necessarily mean they were all violent but the fact that they were around during the incident is enough to cause fear and intimidation to those affected by that days events.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Although the sentences may seem harsh to some, they'll probably only serve a third of the term.

Well the club should distance itself from it then - it has a quoted statement which they say comes from the club - and the club carries its feed on its website

I expect a statement from both clubs tomorrow

Will we see anything on the official web site supporting the Barrow fans? Thought the web site was out of their hands? Crazy as that sounds!

Mr Phil Barnes, Did you know that on Face Book, there is a petition supporting those that have been involved, and jailed, regarding thefootball match against Barrow AFC FA cup of 2013? They seem to quote Atherton Town football club`s support of an injustice regarding the courts sentence`s against the perpetrators. This is totally unacceptable. If the quote is indeed wrong, could you please rectify this, as it puts your club in a very poor light as if, endorsing what took place on that day. thank you . e-mailed...

As much as you can suggest the police have used the fact it was a football game as a front for more sever punishments, it's also just as bad having mindless thugs use a football game as a front to mob up in large groups and attack defenseless people. They were all involved in one way shape or form, joint enterprise has been a part of British law for years, it's not something they've just invented for football fans.

I really don't think its in anyone's best interest to engage with these people on facebook or wherever. Let's just hope evolution finally arrives in Atherstone and ignore them.
