Just need to look at Dave Inghams post on the general forum to see what a bad idea chasing promotion is.

Forest Green Rovers
"Lost £2.9m last season in their failed attempt to get promoted, following on from a £2.4m loss the season before.

This is the sort of thing we're up against - sobering numbers, imvho.

Having no proper internet at the club is madness

Players coming to barrow instead somewhere nearer to home for the same money - footballers at barrow get much more media attention it feeds their egos - there won't be any stories on bbc radio Manchester or articles on the back pages of the Manchester Evening News about a player playing for Ashton United ( even their weekly Tameside reporter has other clubs to cover )

In terms of kit launch it was a load of nonsense really but if it gets media thinking of Barrow it can't be a bad thing can it

Commercially we can do much more we know this - it's a shame because it could be a big money maker for the club

You forget we have the Evening Mail up here! If a player doesnt wipe his arse enough theyll try and run a story on it but I don't think Ive ever heard of a player signing for a club because of the media coverage the players might get there. Cash is king im afraid and players want cash not interviews on radio cumbria.

Did it get the media thinking of Barrow? I don't think it did. I remember about two reports in papers and one was the evening mail.

Whilst I accept all this I take the view that;

without Paul Casson we would have folded.

If Paul Casson wants to throw money at it we either have great success or if he fails and subsequently bails out we are back where we would have been anyway.

No point in moaning about what might happen if we overstretch its his money to do what he likes with and its also his club to do what he likes with.

There seems to be far more concern over what a rich man might be able to achieve than there ever was when we were floundering without any money.

Que sera sera enjoy the ride people. :scarf: :scarf:

Disagree, I think we would be in the evo stick league or whatever, and if we were, so be it, probably our level even though people think were a league club by rights for some reason.

Im of the opinion that people are burying their heads in this rich american sand, and hoping when they pop it back out Barrow AFC will be in the league 2 table and not the Northern Premier table.

If Paul Casson hadn't taken over the club would have been liquidated and assets seized to cover the outstanding mortgage and other debts. A huge proportion of the members felt it was the right thing to do indeed I know many felt there was no other option.

Yes a new club would have been established but certainly not at Evostick level. who would pay for resurrecting the club. If it weren't for the Keens and a few others we would have gone forever the last time. I really don't see that likely to have been repeated.

Just my opinion.

Paul Casson has got an awful lot wrong and should listen a bit more to knowledgeable fans BUT its early days he has little experience has a business to run. Just be glad we have him

Don't need to be a god to know how perilous the clubs position was before Paul Casson took over. Accounts regularly not filed on time at Companies House (Directors facing criminal offences) and not a pot to [SwearFilter] in.

Do you think we would have survived without Paul Casson?

If not where do you think the club would be today oh wise one?

I have no idea where the club would be. I don't know if we would have survived without Casson. Im just not making outrageous hindsight based proclamations like some massive Dave Ghandi.

Fans like yourself, who seem to think we need to be in the football league by this time next saturday are just not thinking right. It costs millions to get out of this league and 9 times out of 10 thats not even enough.

If this club was in the football league next season we would be knackered. It would be a disaster. Im grateful that we arn't where we were but im worried about where our owner and our fans thinks we should be.

We are in the best position of our lives here so why not aim to build some stability instead of talking about going up through the play offs. Why all the rush? We are still quie a small club in the grand scheme of things. I wouldn't be suprised to see our owner maybe getting a bit bored after 4 or 5 expensive failed promotion chases.

I think the only reason of all the promotion talk is so that its cheaper to do the ground up with the aid of grants . That in itself makes no sense if you are spending millions anyway getting out of the league. Especially if we don't make it out.

Football clubs these days can be top of the league one minute then not existing the next. Do we really wanna take that risk again?

Then what happens Mystic P? Then what?

I understand where you are coming from, but does that not indicate we were living above our means anyway? So if we didnt have a club even at evo stick level, maybe we shouldnt even be that high up in the pyramid anyway?

People have been very quick to pass judgement on other clubs, FGR's huge debts are the latest, Fleetwoods bankrolling etc in the past, but seem to have tinted spectacles on when it comes to our own.

There are a number of sweeping generalisations going around on this thread (and other threads). As many do, I speak to a lot of other Barrow fans in the workplace, the pubs, on the terraces and I have yet to hear anybody at all say that they want to go up this season or the next, or that they think we can do so.
I share the belief that if we were in that position before 2017-18 season then we would take a battering on all fronts. It's this belief, and similar versions of it, that I have found prevalent.
The way that we were falling by the wayside is that we did not (so opinion seems to court) look like we were setting a foundation for a team that can progress. We were looking stagnant. We were looking clueless. We were looking like relegation fodder in my opinion. If we HAVE brought in some players that are good enough (even though they weren't performing under Edmo) then I doubt very much that we would have kept them on board if we went down.
Just my opinion but I think just one relegation will knock us back irreparably as far as the next 10 years go. We need to have the players in situ that are going to provide a solid foundation with the potential to grow with the team and the club.
Let's just calm down and not make wild claims about the fanbase in general if there are just one or two looking for instant promotion...nobody sensible thinks that is going to happen (as far as I know!).
BTW...I am also strongly of the opinion that if we had not voted for the buy-out then the club would be in the process of folding and the ground being ready to be boarded up.

There are lots of clubs much smaller in terms of support than us that survive and do well - so I don't believe for a min our natural level should be Evo-stick - we are clearly spending more than these other clubs and that's my worry

What we need to do is make sure if PC walks away we can survive - because if he sold the club tomorrow for 1p debt free - we would only be debt free for a week

We need to improve commercially and also make sure we make as much as we can from other income sources - we as a club have been badly run for as long as I can remember -

No rush to get back in the league lets slowly build and let's get out into the community / improve facilities and move forward

There is so much more that can be done to get more fans in but again this takes time to build up

First of all I've never suggested we should be in the football league quickly don't know where you've got that from.

Secondly if by some fluke we got promoted and were in the football league next season why would it be a disaster?

If Accy Stanley can survive there I'm sure we can

Football league clubs get a share of the pot probably enough to pay most of the wages

We can then also get substantial grants.

Both of these are business drivers to get in there asap.

THE CLUB DOESNT EVEN HAVE A [SwearFilter] INTERNET CONNECTION!

The club just simply isnt ready for that at all, You Dave P'enis are living in a rock hard dream world
