Barrow v Gateshead (Now OFF)
Re: Barrow v Gateshead Boxing Day
Boxing day has been listed with an amber weather warning for a few days now. Yesterday the met office forecast said it would be overcast with a 30% chance of rain during the game, the heavy rain over night. At time of this posting they are saying 90% chance of heavy rain right through the afternoon from 10am, till early evening. The forecast has not been very accurate for Barrow over the last week, it has rained but not when they predicted and the wind have not been as expected. At the moment it does look like non-stop rain till Sunday and that's just Barrow.
I hope not but I think the game will be off because of flooding, not necessarily at the ground but on the main roads in and out of the area. If off, our next home game is Tranmere on the 9th January, well over a month since our last home game. Thanks to Mr Casson going so long without a home game is not as crippling as it once was.
On the game... A home win looks most likely, Barrow's tails are up and unbeaten since Cox took charge. Gateshead however are on a poor run of form having gone down at home to Woking 5-1 and a resurgent Southport 1-0. Their recent wins include a couple of narrow 1-0 wins away versus bottom of the table Kidderminster and at home to Chester. Prior to that Wrexham destroyed them 4-0, and another resurgent team Halifax destroyed them 4-1 on their own patch with 10 men. Despite the poor results, still a dangerous team.

My memory is going, but does anyone remember a Boxing Day match v Gateshead played with puddles of water on the pitch, when we won 5-0 and I think Doc got a hat trick. Or is that all my imagination???

Can't remember score.
Re: Barrow v Gateshead Boxing Day
Yeah, I do (though I thought it was 5-1) and I'm sure one of them came from the ball stopping in a puddle as their keeper came for a routine collection. Doc nipped in, fished it out, and stuck it in the net.Jim wrote:My memory is going, but does anyone remember a Boxing Day match v Gateshead played with puddles of water on the pitch, when we won 5-0 and I think Doc got a hat trick. The 5-1 was at Heed; we beat them 3-1 at ours on new years day.

Shame if it's off because Gateshead have terrible injury problems at the moment which is almost certainly why they have had such bad results lately. No doubt the injury list won't be anywhere near as long when the game is re-arranged.

Fingers crossed it will be on but with the amount of rain it's put down today, and the forecast non-stop rain for overnight and tomorrow I won't be getting my hopes up!! If it is on the the ground staff will of worked wonders!!
If it does go ahead I predict Barrow 4 Gateshead 0..

Re: Barrow v Gateshead Boxing Day
Got to be doubtful.. Gateshead might not be able to get through, so from a safety point of view it could fall foul of the weather

Re: Barrow v Gateshead Boxing Day
I don't think there is much pointing to this being on, because the ground will already be saturated in Barrow the pitch is likely to be waterlogged, even though Barrow itself is only under a yellow weather warning, lots of the a590 is under flood alert and there is a red flood warning in parts of Lancashire including Lancashire which means risk to life, where a lot of the players are probably based so even if we miraculously managed to get the pitch in a workable condition, the safety of players (and Gateshead) getting to and from Barrow will probably see the game postponed.

Theres a strong possibility we may have a blank end of year, our pitch is sodden, southports is virtually under water and gatesheads is notoriously wet.

Come to think of it, I live near Gateshead and games are always called off there at the drop of a hat, pitch is awful, remember that debacle a few years agoJo am back wrote:Theres a strong possibility we may have a blank end of year, our pitch is sodden, southports is virtually under water and gatesheads is notoriously wet.

Re: Barrow v Gateshead Boxing Day
From the Official Website
Barrow v Gateshead is postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The inevitable decision was made following an inspection by Mike Pike in conversation with match referee Joe Johnson.
Many areas of the pitch are under several inches of water and with the forecast of heavy rain all day, there is no prospect of getting the pitch playable.
A new date will be arranged next week.

Re: Barrow v Gateshead Boxing Day
I'm glad it's off if that idiot was referee.
This is where a decent set up would have added "but the bar is still open with 2 live games and special offers on all the beer"
Oh well I spend my money elsewhere
