just when i thought it couldn`t get worse just watched man u v sheff utd!

when it got to three two i said we`ll loose this,to be honest we didn`t deserve to win,we looked as we were chasing shadows, bullied all over the pitch, why did cox start with harvey out wide?he`s the only player who carries the ball and creates openings,so why was he there bizarre!
we were unlucky when williams went off(but we can`t carry injury prone players),i lost count how many times we gave the ball away(the most crucial when mellor should have played it into the corner but straight to their keeper ....route 1 goal!)

Casson has to take a hit and cancel players contracts we need 2 fullbacks at least 2 midfielders a centrehalf and another striker if not (sorry stu!) but we will go down!

it`s put up or shut up! i have a headache now because i`m so frustrated,it will be worse when i see those last 2 tranmere goals the most pathetic defending i`ve seen for a long time! :x

Thought the turning-point was when Walker feigned an obstruction and threw himself to the ground at 3-1 up.Not blaming the lad for the defeat and it's all ifs and buts, but there was an overlap and if he'd held it up better... who knows. The main worry was the sheer lack of fitness, throughout the match Tranmere were all over us in every department and looked a league or two above us to be honest. Keeper needs serious competition imo, Pilkington's a fully paid-up member of the self-preservation society and Mellor'll never be fit enough at this level, they've got to be shipped out asap.

Living in Aberdeen obviously not at the game , but the manager must take a huge part of the responsibility given we were 3-1 up with 3 minutes of normal time to go.
Even if we were not playing well , basic tactical awareness should be two banks of four , hard to break down and hold what we have, defend balls into the box , one goal in 8 minutes maybe 2 but 3, in my opinion the manager needs to look at himself over the last 8 minutes of the game and what he did.

Well, well, well. As a performance that didn't quite rival debacles such as the 0-6 thumping at home to Gainsborough two years ago but, if there was such a thing as a shamefulness-barometer, the surrender of a two-goal cushion with just five minutes to go has me wondering if this is, at least in some senses, the most embarrassing defeat in the entire history of the club. But it can turn out to be a blessing in disguise because the manager now knows for certain that there can be no more than two or three of these players (which two or three though actually has me stumped) turning out for us come August and the new season. We can only pray it is in this league. In truth, we were shocking all match and until we were given the penalty it didn't seem possible that we could ever score in the proverbial month of. Yet, miraculously we found ourselves 3-1 up. What happened next is hard to comprehend, even with our terrible defence.

I am not going to apologise for sounding like a stuck record for even though I have made the following point on about three previous occasions on this forum over the last five years it’s bad practice on the part of the club that means I have to make it yet again; the tribute to the five fans was fairly insulting, squashed in at half-time as it was with people milling around. It lasted about thirty seconds! It should have been done at the start, with the players gathered around the centre-circle and with a full minute on the referee’s whistle. The last time I mentioned this on here it raised a debate as to who should qualify for a tribute and under what circumstances. That is a worthwhile debate but what is certain is that it should be done properly or not at all. The way it was conducted today was all wrong and disrespectful to some long-standing fans of the club. Shameful. Deeply embarrassed on more than one count to call myself a Barrow fan tonight. Paul Casson, I do hope you read this for one of your former school-colleagues was one of those not given the proper respect today.

Tranmere got what they deserved as they were the better team throughout. It was as big a mystery how we came to be 3-1 up as it was them scoring those last 3 goals. We are in a relegation dog fight make no mistake about it.

I know you said it's not an excuse, but I think anyone aggrieved at that is clutching at straws. Officials were pretty good towards us today, and the blame lies squarely with Cox and his "play it long down the channel" tactics and the 7 or 8 players that couldn't be bothered today. And if we knew how to time-waste properly, we might not have walked away pointless.
Not grasping at straws at all if you read my post, we lost the game we were not good enough in those last few minutes of play, the point about the time was entirely separate.

I was looking at becoming a ref a number of years ago and I do watch referees and notice the officials decisions quite a lot, and I don't really recall in the game the opportunity for adding over 3 minutes of added time, at a real stretch 4. Although boyliegladbach points out the penalty took about 2 minutes and that is probably where the additional time has come from along with a slight delay in returning to the game after Barrow's 2nd goal, I hadn't noticed how long the penalty had taken. The ref did add time for Tranmere's celebrations but we were already in extra time so that didn't add to the original 5 minutes it only extended it.

Contrary to what you say, as a ref you would not stop the clock for a goal, the players are expected to return the the middle and the game restart without delay. If that happens in an orderly fashion you don't often need to add time to the end of a game at all. If there is any delay in a restart you can add time for time wasting at your own discretion.

Agree completely PJ, half time was a [SwearFilter] joke. Seemed like the club was forced into it rather than wanting it. Disgraceful. Do it properly or not at all.

But they do stop the watch while they celebrate/reconvene in their own half - see the first goal, where the Tranmere player walked back and the ref indicated that he'd stopped the watch ("it's only your own time you're wasting" etc). So what you're saying is that all the time that the Barrow players were mobbing Cox after going 2-1 up, or chasing Cook down into the corner flag after making it 3-1, the ref just ignored that? Nope. Nearly a minute of celebrating there...
If it was an unreasonable amount added, Cox would have mentioned it. And if Cox mentions it, then he's a fool because it's not a big deal.

How did this halftime silence malarky come about? Is it done like that at any other club cos I haven't come across it?.
I think it is more disrespectful than not having one at all.
Little kids supposed to be having fun with their penalty taking having to stand whilst the silence was observed---well done them too. Subs having to wait for their kickabout, Our own players not being able to pay their respects to 5 long standing and loyal fans.
Before the game is when it should be observed. A minute of anyone's time isn't long.

+1

Just awful and Disgraceful, I would never have the club read anything out if that is how it will be treated. I wasn't even listening to what was being said and someone told me to listen to what was being said. I missed almost everything said talking to friends. I observed the silence in ignorance of who it was for. Do it at the start when everyone is in their seats to hear the tribute not at half-time when half the ground is busy with talking or busy with other things. Lack of professionalism.

We went 3-1 up , couldn't hold the ball for any longer than 10 seconds , 3-2, same , 3-3, 3-4 ! Not once in the last 5 + injury time did we keep hold or run down the clock . U would think that going 3-1 up v Tranmere the players would fight until the final whistle too grab a great win, but they just collapsed, midfield could not of done any worse once 3-1 up It really is the worst kind of defeat! No doubt this epic of a comeback will be on the front of the non league papers !

I completely agree with your second paragraph PC, re the so called tribute to the passing of Barrow AFC fans. A total shambles and a lack of disrespect to all those families. Fans going to the bar, for a [SwearFilter] etc , talking over the announcement. Not only that, the directors box was empty during the announcement as well. An absolute disgrace Mr Casson. But of course being in the bar with your cronies is more important. My mate was also one of those that passed away. Hang your heads in shame Barrow AFC.

For me, silences should only be held in exception and for those who have played for, or managed, the club in some significant way (ie not Joe Bloggs who was a trialist 28 years ago). No disrespect meant to any who have lost loved ones, but it has long been too much and it dilutes the respect and compassion that was once there on such occasions.
Time to call it a day.

A brief obituary was read about each of the departed followed by polite applause after each, including participation from the Tranmere fans, which in turn was followed by a well observed period of silent reflection. Fitting and dignified in my opinion, unlike your rant. There is no right or wrong way to show respect, it is an individual decision.
