everything paul cox says is spot on,he`s given the squad a chance and not a lot has changed,the football from now on might not be pretty but it`s imperative we stop in this league,he`s right about the last 8 minutes,just disrupt the flow,timewaste go down injured just stop tranmere`s impetus and they wouldn`t have got anything,the next few weeks should be interesting bring it on!

I am not going to apologise for sounding like a stuck record for even though I have made the following point on about three previous occasions on this forum over the last five years it’s bad practice on the part of the club that means I have to make it yet again; the tribute to the five fans was fairly insulting, squashed in at half-time as it was with people milling around. It lasted about thirty seconds! It should have been done at the start, with the players gathered around the centre-circle and with a full minute on the referee’s whistle. The last time I mentioned this on here it raised a debate as to who should qualify for a tribute and under what circumstances. That is a worthwhile debate but what is certain is that it should be done properly or not at all. The way it was conducted today was all wrong and disrespectful to some long-standing fans of the club. Shameful. Deeply embarrassed on more than one count to call myself a Barrow fan tonight. Paul Casson, I do hope you read this for one of your former school-colleagues was one of those not given the proper respect today.

A brief obituary was read about each of the departed followed by polite applause after each, including participation from the Tranmere fans, which in turn was followed by a well observed period of silent reflection. Fitting and dignified in my opinion, unlike your rant. There is no right or wrong way to show respect, it is an individual decision.

PRR your absolutely right on this,certain people over reacting,thought the brief obituaries were excellent and probably wouldn't have even happened at most clubs. Just what do people expect,lets refer to our opponents who's fans were admirable in there applause of people they had no association with by the way ,tranmere who have four times the home support we have so every week they must have at least half a dozen ex supporters who have passed away,if certain people had there way they would have a minutes silence and a list of names read out before every game,not possible.

There are several possible ways of formally acknowledging a supporter's or former player's death such as programme note, PA announcement, moment of reflection, minute's silence and it may be appropriate to combine two or more.

A minute's silence with players lined up in the centre circle is impressive but may not always be so if it becomes a matter of routine. People leaving the bar or arriving at the ground late may sometimes blunder noisily into the ground, not realising it is taking place, or arrive too late to participate. Sometimes the tribute read out beforehand may be a little long and can leave players standing in the cold for the best part of two minutes - not the best preparation for a match, particularly if the weather is inclement. A minute's silence with PA tribute may, nevertheless, seem appropriate in certain circumstances. Few who knew of him would have argued with that for Fred Else but should it be the norm for all former players/managers and, if not, might some families feel aggrieved?

In the same way, which supporters should have their deaths acknowledged? I would argue that any whose family or - with the family's agreement - friends request it should. 'How?' is the more difficult question to resolve.

Knowing one of the deceased from the distant past, I was pleased that the club had acknowledged his death, alongside the others, on Saturday. It's a strength of our football family at Barrow.

Was it perfect? Probably not but it was pretty good - and the simple tributes were heartfelt. Our PA announcer always delivers these exceptionally well, for which thank you. Spectators listened and stood quietly for the tribute. I was most impressed with the way that the Tranmere fans acknowledged each tribute, many in the seated area standing, and the way they joined our applause after the moments' reflection and I thank them for that, too.

An announcement before kick-off had trailed the tributes so that those who wished to be present could do so. Yes there was a momentary problem with a youngster's penalty kick at one end but it was quickly rectified.

How could it have been improved? Perhaps moving the tribute to near the end of half-time when initial chats about the first half are over, urgent toilet visits have been made, penalties taken, notices read, substitutes have finished their half-time activities and players are still in changing rooms would be worth trying next time? Retain the pre-match and start of interval announcements, put a notice of the tribute at the entrance to the bar, have at least one board member present to represent the club alongside what is essentially a supporters' tribute and ensure the players don't come out in the middle of any silence.

Probably the club needs a formal policy for tributes. There's a range of views in this thread to consider but most supporters haven't contributed here so perhaps an invitation on the website and via local media to invite views might be made before a policy is announced?

I share the above views and I think Darren on the Tannoy is very good with all announcements. I attended a match in the New Year and at the previous game, the names of fans who had passed away during the year had been placed up on the screen during a minutes applause prior to kick off. The programme notes included a page of all these names. I thought this was a very fitting and simple tribute. Something similar could be done at Barrow, perhaps prior to the first and /or last home game of each season, with families being given the opportunity to submit names of lost loved ones to the club in the weeks leading up to these games. Names could be read out over the tannoy, followed by a minutes applause. Would this a fitting way to pay tribute to those fans in the Barrow AFC family who have passed on?
