Are Elliott Newby, Alex Newby and Brad Carroll full time professionals at Barrow?

Are they playing week in week out at Conference National Level?

I believe Brad Carrol should be given a chance at right back Symington is awful would like to see us give more chances to these lads or let them go in the summer as its not fair on them to be wasting away at Barrow they wont improve sitting on the bench or in the stands.

As horrible as it sounds. I think they were signed because Paul Casson wanted some local players. You would have thought they would have been given half a chance by now.

Newby looked an exciting prospect in pre season then never really got a chance to show what he could do, you won't find out if they are good enough until they get a run of games

I would have taken a point before play. They would've been high in confidence after beating Grimsby on Saturday. Conditions ruined the game in all fairness but a clean sheet is a positive. A few players I'd like to see break back into the team in the upcoming weeks with E.Newby being one of them. Roll on Cheltenham at home

I can't help thinking that if PC made the players train in Barrow, then things would be much worse, in that it would add nigh-on 90 mins' travelling per day to their schedules (travelling time from Lancaster). Until LA14-land can consistently produce enough players to fill the side, we will be forced to look outside the region, and unless we can obtain the majority of the squad from one geographical area (as Ray Wilkie did from the NE), then we are stuck in this Groundhog Day.

Asking players, and their families, to move to Barrow on the strength of a one-year contract is unrealistic.

I'd love BAFC to be made up of a mixture of local players and others from outside the area moving here, but can't see it as being achievable, at least whilst we are still a NL side, and might not even be possible in the lower reaches of the Football League.

if you read what i said the players wouldn`t be living in lancaster they would move to barrow!
Most fulltime players are on 2 year contracts so i don`t know where you get 1 year from!
Not all the players would be married and when they play away they could meet friends/relatives etc. and they could visit then.

we live near to the lakes, excellent rail links (carlisle have no problem) so why is it such an improbable thing to want the team to be based here?they lived here when we were in the league and travel links then were ridiculas, you also have skype etc. i can`t believe people seem to think that it would be so bad to live here for 2 years, paul cox stays around lancaster(so we were told) so imagine the benefits have having all the players together and getting involved in the community in which they play football in (for a start they would be fresher for every home game (no minimum 2 hour treck!to be honest i don`t think it would be as hard as you think to get players to live here surely that would be more attractive than having to travel to and from lancaster every day! :scarf:

Not true that 'Carlisle have no problem'. Successive CUFC managers have cited location (twenty miles further away than Barrow from the rest of the north west and the populous parts of Yorkshire) as being a problem in trying to attract players.

Barrow has a long tradition in attracting workers from away to take up jobs in shipbuilding and various forms of engineering (although recruitment in some health professions has been problematic in the last decade or so) so nothing is impossible.

Nobody wants to be selling/buying a new house every two years, that would be ridiculous and lead to financial ruin at our level of operation. So commuting is the norm and that’s where we do suffer due to our location; we have to manage that. Players probably won’t be engineers, designers and procurement specialists either these days and won’t be looking for a job in the shipyard. Generally, they are full time fancy Dans with an agent and everything.

I remember seeing Kenny Lowe, Rob (?) Hulse and another north east based player in Mattie’s fish & chip emporium after a game one wintry Tuesday night back in the last century. That brought home to me the commitment of some players back then, they would have their F&Cs, drive what 3 hours back to Gateshead and be up for work at the crack of dawn. I don’t think they make them like that anymore.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Would be allright if Casson could strike a deal with one of the many private landlords we have up here and could then look at leasing properties for players to move into. The player could pay a percentage as could the club.
