He added: “We’re doing what we said we would do and what is needed. It’s a really good use of the money we’ve set aside for capital expenditure within the club and is in compliance with Football League standards which shows intent.”
The first phase of the operation is set to begin over the next couple of weeks. This will see the removal of the top third section of all three floodlights – the highest part of the tower structure and the square ‘top hat’ area where the lights are attached – as these areas are corroded. They will be sent to Gilmour who will then refurbish and repair the sections to a high standard, with a process of hot-dip galvanisation being applied. The bottom two thirds of the structures will remain standing and are to be cleared of any loose or unsafe objects, such as scaffold boards, unused brackets, redundant electrical boxes, etc.
The club’s existing lights will then be fitted to the shortened floodlight towers and they will be operational during the upcoming season.
After the end of next season, phase two kicks in. The standing bottom two thirds of the floodlight towers will be mechanically cleaned and repainted, with scaffolding being placed around them to complete this part of the refurbishment. Each floodlight will have a galvanised floodlight ladder attached to it.
The lights will be removed from the tower to allow electrical work to be carried out. The newly-refurbished top third will be placed back on top of the tower and the ‘Everton lights’ will be installed. In fact, the club’s existing lights and the ones provided by the Toffees – with those ones being distributed to the three structures – will all be attached and used after the job is done to add extra glare.
