That Goal!

Post by The Tomahawk Kid » Mon Feb 29, 2016 1:39 pm

That goal by Jordan Williams was ONE - if not THE BEST - that I've seen at Holker Street (including our Football League days).
I was standing on the Popular Side and from my vantage point I had a clear view of the skill, dexterity, and the finely executed goal prowness of that young man. Nice one Jordan!

I know where you are coming from, Tomahawk Kid, and largely agree with you. Although I wouldn’t go quite so far as to say it’s the very best Barrow goal I have seen, it was certainly one of the best. It was a breath-taking effort.

Breaking it into two parts, the turn and the strike, it’s the turn that will live in the memory for me. The shot was very good, but then again many players get a bit lucky and see a spectacular long range effort fly into the net rather than just wide at least once in their careers (remember Paddy got goal of the season two years back). So good though the shot was, it was the movement and the creation of the space that really stands out for me. There was absolutely nothing on; nobody could have foreseen that the ball would be in the back of the net only three or four seconds later. The piece of magic he produced to shake off his marker and open up space out of nothing was very special. If I had never seen Williams play, and had never heard any rave reviews about him, it was possible to see enough in just that one second to think “this is a footballer”. Sometimes it’s possible to make that claim in the twinkling of any eye when one witnesses a little piece of magic that is pure skill and has no luck about it.

Let’s just hope for his sake that he has the other attributes to take him places. After all, the desire to do well will play a part in his future too. I think of Louis Almond who, in his spells with us, likewise produced a few flashes that made me sit up and think the kid has got it. But Louis at the moment isn’t going to the places I expected him to get to, for whatever reason. Maybe Williams can step up – the early signs suggest he has the ability.

Magic! Was a class goal , the turn and the shot , he had too beat several men inc the gk ! In my 17 years of watching Barra, it was one of the best strikes! We need a kid like Williams too excite the fans , I really think this kid has a bright future in the game ! :skill:

That goal was amazing. As mentioned above, nothing on, then a great bit of skill on the turn and it's in. Great goal. Every now and then you get goals that really make you jump up- Remembering the brace by Louis Almond a few seasons ago now and the Andy Haworth rocket v Stockport

It was a good goal, no doubt about it....the very best at Holker St I'm not so sure about??.....Theres been a lot to choose from but, for me, the best in the post-Vaughn era was Neil Tarrant's 25 yard screamer that put us 4-3 up in the FA Cup replay.

Cook / Walker scored an scored an absolute belter some season's ago now in a league game at Holker street, from 40 or so yards, back to goal, turned and saw the keeper off his line and lobbed it over him. Brilliant stuff.

Bring on the great goals

Admittedly I've only seen it on the highlights, but I think its been way over hyped. Best goal ever seen at Holker Street? Anyone who thinks that must be having a laugh, I've thought of at least 5 better in about 10 seconds without even trying.

That said, it was of course a good turn and a good strike and Williams is a player that I like and really think can have a big future with us.

We've had some really good goals in the past 12 months alone - Cowperthwaite vs Chester and Haworth's thunderbolt towards the end of last season. With this one too, they are about the best three I can remember in recent years.

This
The way everyone was going on I expected to see him lashing into the top corner from 30 yards, great turn mind

Agreed. Love Jordan Williams though, hope we've got a good extensions clause in his contract.

Nifty little turn but I didn't think it justified some of the comments it got. Seems like a good player though - credit to our scout and manager for identifying him and getting him in.

Not having a laugh at all. From where I stood - that goal looked class! I reckon I've seen more games than you have - taking our ages into account - so I think I'm entitled to my opinion. I'm sure you have your own too. Haven't seen the highlights...but from where I stood...that goal was special.

It was a fantastic goal. Maybe we can all agree on it being goal of the season so far? :)
