1981-82 finished 8th from 22 teams with 65 points.

All of the above finishes were followed with a relegation season. The 1981-82 season was only the 3rd year of the leagues existence Barrow being founder members.

My third Barrow match this season and still to see them lose! Draw at Woking, win at Boreham Wood and win at Aldershot! Completely in control today and improving every time I've seen the team. The back four now looks rock solid and the closing down is good. Football is poor but then all football at this level is poor but with a few better quality players Barrow could be challenging next season. I cannot for the life of me understand why people want Simon Grand to be released because in the 3 games I've seen he hasn't put a foot wrong. The defensive poblems against Woking came almost entirely from Symington and in the other 2 games I've seen since Sutton came in, the back 4 has been faultless. Outstanding again today with Livesey just shading it for MOM.

Good point, the two central defenders have made an excellent pair for most of the season and I hope they are there next season, with the addition of a third equally good who can challenge them for a place.

I agree that Livesey was commanding in the heart of our defence today. Excellent understanding developing with a stable back four who are now doing a great job of covering for each other when individuals have pushed forward. Our goal was very rarely threatened today and I can't recall a clear shot on target from Aldershot.

Yes, I remember that season well. Just googled the season before and we finished 9th with only 38 points, so points wise poor but position wise good. Only 20 teams that season, strange game football

The only half-chance I can think of for Aldershot was a header in the second half from a good cross on their left which was put well over the bar. In fact, in addition to the Barrow goal which was really well worked by Howarth ending in a great cross and an excellent header from Cook back in the direction the ball came from there was also a great effort by Tomlinson which rocked the post and a double effort from Cook (a header followed by a shot both which were blocked) both of which were very close to being goals. There's no doubt in my mind that Cox has done wonders in the organisation of the team from the time I watched against Woking to today. The players all seem to know where they should be and what they should be doing and look very confident. The spirit looks good and the closing down of the opposition is much better.

Yes, 3 points for a win started in 1981-82.

From 1983-84 until 1987 the APL experimented with 3 points for an away win, and 2 for a home win, so any comparison with those seasons also needs to be adjusted.

From the highlights Cook looks like he's had a real game. And for someone who never used to cross, Haworth's proving himself to be the best crosser at the club.

yeah it was a good cross and a towering header from Cook. It was interesting to hear the BBCRC commentary team mentioning the height of Jordan Williams and Haworth and that we have 4 x 6 foot plus players both upfront and at the back now - we've gone from a team that was fairly easily knocked off the ball to one that's bullying other teams now.
