"yet when we're up there next season they will all be there". I would like to think you are right Nige but I have my doubts. It seems to be attendances are actually going down,OK,nothing to play for and a home game on Saturday but with the current form looking promising for the future brought about by Mr Cox's nous and Mr Cassons investment it seems to me that there is an apathy that has descended over the club for some strange reason.blue nige wrote:The effort the players put in was fantastic (after a long away journey),o.k. it`s not pretty at times but teams must fear playing us you can tell by the way the team celebrated cooks goal how they are bonding!,only down side the attendance i honestly don1t know why Paul casson`s bothering it was a fine night no distractions playing a team in the play offs, team unbeaten, yet still people don`t turn up, yet when we`re up there next season they will all be there!

I noticed quite a few what you might call 'older blokes' there last night that were leaving well before the end, obviously been in the past but not happy with what was offered up last night for some reason.
I know there is a limited amount of money in the town and people have to be more careful than ever nowadays but its the same everywhere.
I dont no,I might be wrong, but, given the current form I think there should have been one and a half thousand there last night just to have a look and get a taster of whats very probably going to be on offer for next season.

Now we've moved on with purpose and still one year/season ahead of the owner's plan.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
Re: Braintree (H) Match Thread
Nothing really to add, another solid performance that leaves you looking at those daft dropped points earlier in the season and thinking what if. One positive for me is that the change in form isn't an instant, new manager affect that sees teams picking up a few points early on. It's been a deliberate and well executed change in style and attitude that took a while to establish. Bodes well for next season, especially if we can pick up a bit more quality in the summer. The crowds will come back and build in time, winning teams will attract supporters.
I wanna take you to an Away Bar

All ifs and buts and of course it wouldn't have panned out this way, but if we'd have held on when winning in the last few minutes against both Halifax and Tranmere, we'd be 4 points off the play-offs with a game in hand.PRR wrote:Nothing really to add, another solid performance that leaves you looking at those daft dropped points earlier in the season and thinking what if.

Re: Braintree (H) Match Thread
The crowds will grow faster when we are WINNING and have something to play for - if this run had come earlier in the season crowds would be better. Like Ste says IF we had held on against Tranmere and Halifax we would be 3 points off the play offs ( Tranmere would have 3 less points than they do now making us a point closer ) it could have made for an exciting end to the season but all ifs and buts.
The club still needs to carry on working in the community and promoting the club and dare I say it improve facilities and the match day experience to increase our hardcore support still further.
Thought we were great last night -

We'd have been even better off than that wouldn't we? As we are 10 points behind Tranmere in 5th, and they would have had 3 less points? Unless my maths is as bad as it was when I was in schoolSte Story wrote:All ifs and buts and of course it wouldn't have panned out this way, but if we'd have held on when winning in the last few minutes against both Halifax and Tranmere, we'd be 4 points off the play-offs with a game in hand.PRR wrote:Nothing really to add, another solid performance that leaves you looking at those daft dropped points earlier in the season and thinking what if.

Oh yeah I forgot to deduct the points from tranmere.
That being said we've had comebacks and held on backs against the wall in games ourself, so swings and roundabouts.

Exactly, that is spot on and just what we were saying today in work.PRR wrote:One positive for me is that the change in form isn't an instant, new manager affect that sees teams picking up a few points early on. We can now see each & every player working for the team and when the opposition have the ball the Barrow players are right on them not giving them a second. It just feels so much better.
As others have said, it's a shame there weren't more there to see the change recently.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was Lacey that lobbed the ball forward to Cook to score. BBC and EM reports say Jordan Williams. Maybe I need to change my specs.

Lacey was the guy mentioned in the commentary on BBC Cumbria. Not that I trust everything they say

Re: Braintree (H) Match Thread
Crowds will improve next season if the team is successful from the beginning but Barrow will never get huge crowds in comparison to many other National League clubs because it's population is much less than most (Tranmere i.e. The Wirral over 300,000, Halifax 95,000, Chester 77,000, Barrow 54,000) and most other places have huge population areas on their doorstep whereas Barrow has nothing. The only advantage for Barrow is that there are no other clubs competing for supporters (the main reason why London based non-league clubs generally have poor support) but that's not enough to offset the low population.
