Yep, another completely ridiculous statement from Casson who doesn't have any idea about how things work in English football.
Was he not given any time to think about the contract?
If he hasn't signed the contract he was offered by Saturday night does that mean we are now looking for a replacement for him?
I think Paul Cox needs to explain a few things to Paul Casson as his public statements could ending up losing us decent players.

Mr Casson might have put his foot in it again, possibly deliberately? Would home support have called for Cook to stay on Saturday had Mr Casson kept quiet about the answer he wanted?

Either way... He did say the new season starts with a meeting 10am Sunday morning after the last game (Wrexham) so they wanted to know before then. He also said Cox had a really good talk to Cook last weekend so he knows where the club stands.

They wanted the players signed up before pre-season starts. So pre-season is all about getting them right for the season start and not about messing around with potential signings. To that end we have been steadily fed the idea that we already have players signed up for next season and others set to come in once available. Some of these are currently under contract to other clubs so they won't name them, they also haven't named any of the current squad that are staying or leaving. It makes it sound like Cook is the last one to decide and the club is not prepared to wait any longer. Whether or not he has signed I doubt they'll reveal it until they are ready to. The football league season hasn't even finished yet, give them time but don't hold your breath it might be a while.

Cooks contract should have been sorted in January. Its been left far too late and it just feels like Cooky is keeping his options open waiting for hear what offers are coming into him. The fact that we havn't heard anything over this weekend, coupled with the fact that this should have been done months ago looks like hes going.

He would Have been mad to sign a contract in January with a manager he hardly knew and the club still uncertain where it would finish in the league.

That is a good point actually Jim. I worry that we probably didn't at least approach him on the subject at the time.

Evening Mail being nice and clear

"Definitive news on whether star striker Cook has accepted a new contract will also be revealed in the coming days and weeks."

That's good to know, sometime before start of August then.

IMO it boils down to a decision on whether he wants to be playing where he is happy, loved by the fans and a regular on the team sheet, or whether his ambition is to play in the football league, probably closer to home, but possibly be in and out of the starting line up and less valued by the club and fans.

(PS - and off topic - good to see the NWEM has redesigned its web pages)

no it isn't Jim - If you have a chromebook like I do it now takes forever for pages to load due to the amount of adverts on the pages.... even worse than before...
back onto Cook though - I get the impression it won't be as long as we think - I'm guessing by the end of next week if it's good news (hopefully)

Looks like Livesey may have had an extension clause then - good to see he'll be back next season

He's getting on a bit, now aged 35.
